You will play a crucial role, serving as both a senior technical expert and a team leader within the Network Engineering Section. This role is responsible for overseeing the implementation and enforcement of cybersecurity policies, managing a team of IT security professionals, and coordinating cross-functional efforts to protect the integrity of NLM’s infrastructure.\nThis position is based at our client’s office in Bethesda, MD and requires onsite presence 3 to 5 days per week.\nKey Responsibilities:\nTechnical Leadership\nLead the architectural design and integration of security products into the enterprise network.\n\nIdentify and mitigate significant cybersecurity risks, trends, and vulnerabilities.\n\nOversee the development and implementation of security strategies, policies, and enforcement mechanisms.\n\nReview new systems, networks, and software designs for security risks and integration issues.\n\nCoordinate infrastructure protection efforts in compliance with HHS and NIH directives (e.g., HSPD-7).\n\nTeam Management\nSupervise and mentor a team of IT security specialists and contractors.\n\nAssign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of security initiatives.\n\nServe as the escalation point for complex security incidents and technical challenges.\n\nProgram Oversight\nCoordinate with NLM Incident Response Team in investigations of security violations.\n\nCoordinate with HHS CSIRC, OIG, and law enforcement as needed.\n\nRecommend and track remediation actions and ensure follow-through.\n\nOperational Duties\nCoordinate with IT operations teams on firewall upgrades and SSL VPN tunnel management.\n\nMonitor and enforce security policies across Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto firewalls.\n\nEvaluate and implement security tools to protect information resources.\n\nWHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:\nEducation:\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)\n\nMinimum Work Experience: 10 years (8 with MS; 14 without degree)\n\nSpecialized Experience: 5 years of system administration; 7 years system security administration\n\nExperience:\nExperience with Cisco/Fortigate (Fortinet), Juniper, and Palo Alto security platforms\n\nProficiency with tools like Nmap, Wireshark, tcpdump\n\nStrong grasp of networking protocols (TCP/UDP, OSI Model, VLANs, routing)\n\nExcellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills\n\nExperience leading a team of 3-5 network security engineers\n\nCertification: CISSP (or ability to obtain within 6 months)\n\nAbility to obtain a Public Trust\n\nDesired Qualifications:\nFamiliarity with SIEM, proxy, and URL filtering systems\n\nThe likely salary range for this position is $164,382 - $195,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary.
