This role focuses on supporting, integrating, and troubleshooting scientific instruments and associated computing environments used in research laboratories. The engineer will work closely with scientists, laboratory staff, vendors, and internal IT teams to ensure instruments and supporting systems are reliable, secure, and fit for research needs.\nBiomedical research activities for a major federal health agency depend on the technologies and services you’ll support in your role here at GDIT. There will also be some work in Rockville and Poolesville, MD.\nResponsibilities:\nSupport the deployment, integration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of scientific instruments and their connected computing systems\nPartner with researchers and laboratory staff to understand instrument workflows, operational requirements, and support needs\nCoordinate with vendors, facilities, cybersecurity, and IT teams to support instrument installation, upgrades, and issue resolution\nTroubleshoot instrument-connected workstations, software, data transfer paths, and peripheral systems\nHelp maintain documentation, inventories, and support procedures for scientific instrumentation environments\nAssist with operating system support, software compatibility, patch coordination, and endpoint considerations for laboratory systems\nProvide user support and guidance for instrument-related computing workflows and data handling processes\nIdentify opportunities to improve reliability, support processes, and user experience across instrumentation services\nRequired Skills:\nBachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, biomedical engineering, or a related field and at least 5 years of related experience\nExperience supporting scientific instruments, laboratory systems, or instrument-connected computing environments\nExperience troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux workstations and scientific application software\nAbility to work effectively with scientists, vendors, and cross-functional technical teams\nStrong documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills\nExperience in a customer-facing or service-oriented technical support role\nDesired Skills:\nFamiliarity with laboratory instrumentation environments and research data workflows\nExperience with networking, endpoint support, and system integration in lab settings\nUnderstanding of security and operational considerations for instrument-connected systems\nAbility to manage multiple priorities across a diverse instrument support portfolio\nCollaborative, service-oriented mindset with focus on enabling research outcomes\nThe likely salary range for this position is $107,744 - $143,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary.
