Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.\nResponsibilities for this Position\nROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:\nAs a software engineer intern for GDMS, you’ll be a member of a cross functional team responsible for performing software requirements analysis, lead research and design, and develop and test software and tools. From inventing new products or enhancing existing applications, your talent and leadership abilities will be front and center.\nAs a Software Engineer Intern, you will:\nAssist in software requirements analysis, participate in research, design, develop and test software and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancing existing applications\nApply the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products\nSupport and develop our technical culture by being engaged, intellectually curious, friendly, motivated to solve complex problems, and inspired to deliver superior user-centered design\nParticipate in internal reviews of software components and systems\nWhat sets you apart:\nCreative thinker with demonstrated success leading the software development life cycle\nExpertise in applying technical standards and methodologies to solve challenges\nExceptional communication skills with the capacity to secure buy-in on concepts and ideas\nCollaborative team player eager to provide technical leadership and position others for success\nCommitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others\nAppreciation for user-centric design\nAdditional Key Skillsets:\nProgramming Skills:\nStrong fundamentals in Computer Science theory (data structures, algorithms, and computational complexity)\nSolid object oriented programming and software design skills\nProficient in one of the following: Java, C++, or JavaScript/TypeScript (using object oriented techniques)\nWeb Services knowledge such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Redux\nOther beneficial common programming patterns/paradigms:\nFamiliarity with multiple DevOps tool chains (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm/Ansible/Terraform, Jenkins, GitLab)\nFamiliarity with cloud services and tooling (AWS) \nExperience supporting software teams using Agile methodologies\nDetailed and fully proficient knowledge of technology trends and champions new ideas and product and process improvements\nConcurrent programming and building multi-threaded systems\nMemory and CPU profiling\nData modeling and writing efficient data access methods\nExperience building large-scale mission-critical applications\nExperience with distributed systems\nExperience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ)\nDirect manipulation of user interfaces\nInformation visualization (charts, rendering maps)\nSalary Note\nThis estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.).
