Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.\nResponsibilities for this Position\nROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:\nThe Marine Cable Planning and Operations Engineer develops and maintains ship plans and RPLs and provides technical support for marine cable operations. The engineer applies mathematics, engineeringprinciples, and physics to cable planning and operational problem-solving.\nThe position is approximately 70% office-based and 30% travel, including assignments aboard ships and at shore sites. Shipboard responsibilities are limited to technical planning and operational support; no additional vessel crew duties are required.\nResponsibilities include:\nDevelop, review, and maintain ship plans and RPLs using Makai Lay software.\nValidate cable route positions, cable types, lengths, and associated technical records for accuracy and consistency.\nApply mathematics, engineering analysis, and physics to cable planning and operational problem-solving.\nUse GIS software to visualize and analyze route information and supporting spatial data.\nCoordinate with engineering staff, shipboard personnel, and shore-site teams to prepare and update operational plans.\nProvide technical planning support during sea operations and shore-site activities.\nDocument calculations, planning assumptions, revisions, and operational results.\nFollow applicable safety, security, and information-handling requirements.\nBasic Qualifications\nStrong foundation in mathematics, engineering principles, and physics.\nAbility to perform technical calculations, interpret engineering and positional data, and identify discrepancies.\nExperience with GIS software, or demonstrated ability to learn and apply GIS tools.\nAbility to learn and use Makai Lay software.\nStrong attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work collaboratively in office, shipboard, and shore-site environments.\nWillingness and ability to travel approximately 30% of the time.\nAbility to attend and successfully complete Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) \nAbility to pass the required U.S. Coast Guard physical examination.\nActive Secret security clearance at the time of hire and ability to maintain that clearance.\nPreferred, but not required:\nBachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or a related technical discipline.\nExperience using Makai Lay software.\nExperience developing ship plans and RPLs.\nExperience supporting marine cable installation, subsea engineering, or related sea operations.\nExperience using GIS software for route planning and spatial analysis.\nWhat sets you apart:\nClear understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, theories, and technical standards\nClear understanding of requirements management and system modeling tools\nCreative thinker with ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity\nTeam player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success\nCommitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others\nIdentifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation\nOur Commitment to You:\nAn exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.\nResearch oriented work, alongside award winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation’s security\nFlexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule)\nCompetitive benefits, including 401k matching, flex time off, paid parental leave, healthcare benefits, health & wellness programs, employee resource and social groups, and more\nSee more at gdmissionsystems.com/careers/why-work-for-us/benefits\nSalary Note\nThis estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.).
