Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.\n Join our Hastings engineering team as a Principal FPGA Engineer, taking technical ownership of complex VHDL-based FPGA solutions for advanced mission computing systems.\nYou will remain closely involved in hands-on FPGA development while providing technical leadership throughout the full engineering lifecycle. This will include requirements capture, architecture, design, implementation, simulation, verification, integration and technical review.\nWorking collaboratively with all functions in the business, you will help deliver robust FPGA solutions for complex, high-integrity applications. You will also guide other engineers, support technical decision-making and contribute to the continued development of our FPGA engineering capability.\nYour key responsibilities will include:\nDesigning, implementing and verifying complex FPGA solutions using VHDL.\nTaking FPGA designs from requirements capture through to integration and verification.\nDeveloping simulation environments and verification test benches.\nContributing to FPGA architecture and technical design decisions.\nLeading technical and design reviews.\nInvestigating and resolving complex design, integration and verification issues.\nEstimating, planning and taking ownership of FPGA development activities.\nProviding technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.\nWorking closely with various functions within the organisation.\nSupporting the continuous improvement of FPGA development processes, tools and engineering practices.\nClick here for the full job description\n Essential experience\nSignificant experience designing and implementing FPGA solutions using VHDL.\nStrong knowledge of FPGA design, simulation and verification, including test-bench development.\nExperience taking FPGA designs through requirements capture, implementation, integration and verification.\nPractical experience with an established FPGA development toolchain, ideally AMD Xilinx Vivado.\nThe ability to lead technical reviews and resolve complex FPGA design and verification issues.\nExperience estimating and planning FPGA development activities.\nStrong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across systems, hardware, software and verification disciplines.\nThe ability to provide technical guidance and support to other engineers.\nDesirable experience\nExperience with AMD Xilinx SoCs or Microchip/Microsemi FPGA devices.\nKnowledge of high-integrity or safety-critical FPGA development.\nFamiliarity with DO-254 or comparable development assurance standards.\nExperience with video processing, high-speed interfaces or embedded digital systems.\nExperience mentoring or technically leading FPGA engineers.\nA relevant degree, equivalent qualification or substantial industry experience.\nChartered Engineer status, or an interest in working towards professional registration.\nProgramming experience in languages such as C, Python, or other scripting languages.\nExperience using source control tools such as Git.\nExperience with requirements capture and management tools.\nFamiliarity with SysML and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools.\nExperience with Siemens QuestaSim or comparable tools for FPGA simulation, validation and verification.\nExperience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred\n This role has a salary of between £65,000 and £85,000 plus our flexible benefits package.\nWe are open to this role being spent with time working from home and in the office (hybrid - typically 3 days working in office) on a weekly basis or fully in our offices.\nRelocation assistance may be available for qualifying UK based applicants to move closer to our sites.\nWe pride ourselves in being a great place to work with a shared sense of purpose, offering impressive benefits:\nA compressed nine-day fortnight and compressed hours - which means every other Friday off. \nA personalized career development plan, alongside regular progress reviews - supporting and valuing your progression within the Company. \nA flexible working environment where your contributions are recognized and rewarded with flexible benefits \nWe believe in maintaining a diverse workplace - inclusive of beliefs, cultural background, job experiences, thoughts and ideas.
