That covers metal plate, structural steel, pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, welding consumables, and purchased components. This is the site's first dedicated inventory role. You won't inherit someone else's system. You'll build the processes, set the standards, and make sure the right material, with the right paperwork, reaches the right work order on the planned date.\nThis is a high-impact, high-visibility role for someone who is both analytical and hands-on. You should be as comfortable building a shortage forecast from a BOM as you are walking the yard to track down a heat number. You'll work closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Project Management, Production, Quality, and Finance, and your work will directly decide whether fabrication stays on schedule for a facility of national importance.\nIf you seek high impact and are excited by fast-paced, intense, Skunkworks-style projects, we encourage you to apply to join our team.\nResponsibilities\nInventory Planning & Analysis\nForecast material needs from project schedules, build plans, and bills of material (BOMs); set min/max levels, reorder points, and safety stock; flag shortages early through MRP review.\nRun ABC/XYZ classification, excess and obsolete (E&O) review, and remnant/drop utilization analysis, and recommend dispositions to Purchasing, Engineering, and Quality.\nAnalyze job-level material cost variance (estimated vs. issued vs. actual) and report root causes to Project Management and Estimating.\nApply AI and analytics tools to forecasting, shortage detection, and E&O review, checking results against source data before acting on them.\nWarehouse, Yard & Material Handling\nDesign storage solutions and optimize warehouse and yard layout, including segregation of carbon, stainless, and alloy materials and controlled areas for safety-related items.\nCoordinate receiving, kitting, staging, and material movement with Quality on hold/release status; maintain labeling, preservation, and shelf-life control.\nKeep daily-use consumables (filler metals, abrasives, gases) stocked for production using FIFO/FEFO controls.\nNuclear Quality & Traceability\nMaintain heat/lot traceability, MTRs/CMTRs, certificates of conformance, and PMI status, linked to inventory records and job packages.\nControl material identification and status (accepted, on hold, rejected, quarantined) from receipt through storage, kitting, and issue, per the GM Quality Assurance Program and 10 CFR Part 70 facility procedures.\nSupport receiving-documentation checks for commercial-grade dedication, and flag suspected nonconformances and counterfeit, fraudulent, or suspect items (CFSI) to Quality.\nMaintain inventory, receiving, and count records as quality records, and follow export-control requirements for controlled materials, drawings, and records.\nSystems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement\nRun site-level setup in the MES, inventory management system, and ERP within shared company standards, and keep site data clean and accurate.\nOwn the cycle count and physical inventory program; investigate variances and drive corrective actions to sustain 98%+ location/quantity accuracy and 100% traceability accuracy on controlled material.\nBuild dashboards and KPIs (turns, days on hand, accuracy, fill rate, on-time material availability, aged inventory), and support close, valuation, and audits with Finance.\nWrite SOPs and work instructions, train staff, partner with the systems team on testing and rollout, and lead Lean/Six Sigma improvements.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations, or Engineering; OR four additional years of relevant experience in place of a degree.\n5-8 years of inventory control, materials management, or logistics experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial construction.\nProven record of measurably improving inventory accuracy, material availability, or warehouse performance, such as count programs built, shortages reduced, or layouts redesigned.\nHands-on experience with MES, inventory management, and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).\nStrong command of FIFO/FEFO, heat/lot-specific issue, cycle counting, and ABC analysis; advanced Excel (pivots, lookups, Power Query).\nAbility to work in warehouse, shop, and outdoor yard environments, including lifting up to 40 lbs and climbing ladders to elevated storage; ability to travel approximately 25%.\nU.S. person status required due to export-control requirements; ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance and access authorization.\nPreferred Skills and Experience\nExperience in a nuclear, DOE, or NRC-regulated quality environment, including safety-related material control, CFSI, and 10 CFR Part 21.\nKnowledge of process piping materials, including pipe schedules, ASTM/ASME specifications, fittings, flanges, and valves, and MTR/CMTR traceability for code work.\nExperience with spool fabrication, isometrics, and material take-offs.\nAPICS CPIM/CSCP/CLTD certification; Lean or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt; Master's degree.\nDeep SAP (MM/PP/WM) or Oracle experience; ERP implementation or upgrade experience; Power BI or Tableau.\nExperience with WMS and barcode/RFID tracking, and with MRP for complex, multi-phase projects.\nDemonstrated, measurable results applying AI or machine-learning tools to inventory, forecasting, or material planning.\nExperience standing up a new warehouse, site, or inventory function in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment.\nForklift certification; hazardous materials handling.\nAdditional Requirements\nAbility to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.\nCompensation and Benefits\nThe base salary range for this role is $90,000-$175,000 annually. \nYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.\nBase salary is just one part of your total rewards package at General Matter.
