This is a high-impact position for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in an environment that demands both technical expertise and hands-on execution. You will take ownership of key accounting functions while designing and implementing the processes, controls, and systems necessary to support long-term growth.\nWorking closely with company leadership, engineering, operations, and external advisors, you will help shape the accounting function as General Matter scales from early-stage operations into a fully integrated industrial enterprise. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting judgment, a high degree of autonomy, and a demonstrated ability to drive initiatives from concept through execution.\nResponsibilities\nOwn key aspects of the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement accuracy.\nLead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of scalable accounting processes, policies, controls, and documentation.\nEstablish and manage a comprehensive accrual process to ensure accurate and timely expense recognition across the organization.\nOversee the review and reconciliation of open purchase orders, partnering with operations and procurement to ensure accurate financial tracking and timely resolution.\nPrepare and analyze financial reporting, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to improve financial performance and operational visibility.\nIndependently research and resolve complex accounting matters, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies.\nDesign, implement, and strengthen internal controls appropriate for a rapidly scaling, regulated advanced manufacturing environment.\nServe as a key accounting partner to cross-functional stakeholders, providing financial insights and guidance to support operational and strategic decision-making.\nOwn fixed asset accounting processes, including capitalization, assets placed in service, depreciation, and reconciliation of capital expenditures across purchase orders and related components.\nIdentify opportunities to automate workflows, enhance financial systems, and improve the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of accounting operations.\nSupport financial audits, technical accounting assessments, and other strategic initiatives while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and compliance.\nTake ownership of special projects and evolving accounting priorities as the business continues to grow.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.\n5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including demonstrated ownership of complex accounting processes and financial reporting.\nStrong command of US GAAP, with substantial experience in both technical and operational accounting.\nCPA designation, active or inactive.\nDemonstrated ability to independently manage accounting processes, exercise sound judgment, and resolve complex financial matters.\nExperience developing, implementing, or improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.\nPreferred Skills and Experience\nAdvanced Excel proficiency and significant experience working with ERP systems; QuickBooks experience is a plus.\nExperience in a high-growth, early-stage, or rapidly scaling organization, with a track record of building accounting infrastructure and improving operational efficiency.\nStrong technical accounting expertise, including experience with accruals, fixed assets, financial reporting, and complex reconciliations.\nExceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.\nProven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across finance, engineering, operations, and procurement.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with senior leadership and external advisors.\nHighly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of independently managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.\nA proactive, ownership-driven mindset with the ability to operate strategically while remaining deeply engaged in day-to-day execution.\nExperience in advanced manufacturing, energy, industrial, or technology-driven organizations.\nExperience implementing or optimizing accounting systems, automating workflows, and establishing scalable financial controls.\nAdditional Requirements\nWilling to work extended hours and weekends as needed.\nThis position is based in Los Angeles, CA and requires being onsite full-time.
