Working alongside experienced engineers, you will contribute to real engineering projects spanning facility power systems, instrumentation, automation, and controls while gaining hands-on experience across the full engineering lifecycle-from concept development and analysis through testing and implementation.\nYou will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, chemical, and nuclear engineers to solve challenging technical problems in a fast-paced, highly multidisciplinary environment.\nResponsibilities\nAssist in the design, analysis, testing, and evaluation of electrical systems ranging from low-voltage DC circuits to high-voltage three-phase power distribution.\nSupport the development of instrumentation and control systems used throughout General Matter's enrichment facility.\nAssist with electrical load calculations, power distribution studies, and analysis of onsite power generation systems, including backup power and microgrid architectures.\nContribute to electrical system documentation, including schematics, specifications, wiring diagrams, and design packages.\nParticipate in component selection, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation testing.\nSupport development and execution of qualification and acceptance testing for electrical and control systems.\nWork cross-functionally with engineers across multiple disciplines to ensure systems are safe, reliable, manufacturable, and maintainable.\nLearn engineering design processes while receiving mentorship from experienced engineers and contributing to meaningful, high-impact projects.\nBasic Qualifications\nCurrent undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.\nStrong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals.\nCoursework or project experience involving electrical power systems, instrumentation and controls, circuit design, embedded systems, control systems, or power electronics\nAbility to solve technical problems using first-principles thinking and sound engineering fundamentals.\nStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary engineering teams.\nEagerness to learn, take ownership, and contribute in a fast-paced engineering environment.\nBonus Qualifications \nHands-on experience through internships, research, Formula SAE, robotics, engineering clubs, or personal projects.\nExperience designing, building, testing, or troubleshooting electrical systems.\nFamiliarity with electrical CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Altium, KiCad, or similar).\nExperience with PLCs, industrial controls, sensors, data acquisition systems, or instrumentation.\nExposure to power distribution, electrical protection systems, or industrial electrical equipment.\nFamiliarity with applicable electrical codes and standards.\nExperience documenting engineering designs and test results.\nComfortable learning new software tools, analysis methods, and engineering concepts quickly.\nAdditional Requirements\nAbility to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.\nEqual Opportunity Employer\nGeneral Matter is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with General Matter is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.\nCompensation and Benefits\nThe hourly pay range for this internship is $30-$40 per hour, depending on the candidate’s current standing in school (i.e. sophomore, senior). \nInterns will receive a monthly housing stipend, and are eligible for overtime pay.
