Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.\nOur mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable. We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society. \nWe were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms. \nOur lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. \nWe are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency. \nHelp us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable. \nAbout This Role\nGeneral Matter builds its own technology: the software, firmware, control systems, and infrastructure that run an industrial nuclear fuel facility. At most companies, a security bug costs you data. Here, the software we build, and any security vulnerabilities we miss, touch the real world. The Security team's job is to find those gaps before anyone else does. We do that through offensive testing, code audits, design reviews, and hardening the systems we ship. \nAs an intern on the team, you'll attack General Matter's products and infrastructure, while working with the engineers who own them to fix what you find. Targets include web apps, APIs, Linux and Windows hosts, cloud environments, embedded devices, and industrial controllers. You'll own real projects from start to finish, and you won't be writing policy documents\nResponsibilities\nBreak everything you touch, then help us fix it. \nRun penetration tests against General Matter networks, services, web applications, and APIs. Prove what you find with working proof-of-concept exploits. \nAudit source code and features for security vulnerabilities in languages like Python, C, C++, Rust, Go, and TypeScript. Then build static analysis rules or CI checks so the same class of bug can't come back. \nReverse engineer and attack embedded devices and industrial equipment on an isolated test bench. That includes firmware extraction, binary analysis on x86 and ARM, debug interfaces (JTAG, SWD, UART), and PLC and industrial protocol implementations (Modbus, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA). \nDo threat modeling and adversarial design reviews with software, controls, and hardware engineers. Help design a secure architecture for systems before they ship. \nAssess third-party software, devices, and services before they get into our environment, and work with vendors and suppliers to get the issues fixed. \nAttack cloud and identity infrastructure, including IAM misconfigurations, exposed secrets, privilege escalation paths, and CI/CD supply chain weaknesses. \nBuild automated tooling that spots known security exposures and keeps running after your internship ends. \nPresent your findings and fixes to the engineers and leaders who own the systems. \nBasic Qualifications\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field \nSecurity experience in one or more of the following: C, C++, Rust, Go, Python, x86, ARM, cryptography, reverse engineering, embedded systems, or network protocols. \nA strong understanding of common vulnerability classes and how to exploit them, such as SQLi, XSS, CSRF, SSRF, memory corruption, and authentication or authorization flaws. \nExperience auditing code and features, and comfort reading large codebases you didn't write. \nStrong investigative and analytical problem-solving skills. You keep digging after the obvious attacks fail. \nClear written communication. A finding only counts if the engineer who owns the system understands it and can fix it. \nPreferred Skills and Experience\nHands-on offensive security experience. CTF competitions are ideal, and bug bounties, CVEs, security research, or homelab projects also count. \nExperience with fuzzing (AFL++, libFuzzer), static analysis (Semgrep, CodeQL), and sandboxing or exploit mitigations. \nExperience with tools like Burp Suite, Ghidra, IDA, Binary Ninja, Wireshark, or Metasploit. \nHardware hacking experience, such as firmware dumps, UART/JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, or fault injection basics. \nExperience with industrial control systems, PLCs, SCADA, or OT protocols. This is a plus but not required, and we'll teach you. \nExperience attacking Windows/Active Directory, Linux, cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), containers, or Kubernetes. \nA GitHub, blog, CTF writeup, CVE, or bug bounty profile that shows us something you've broken. \nAdditional Requirements\nWilling and able to work on-site in Los Angeles, CA, full-time (40 hours/week), for the whole internship. \nAll testing is done on General Matter-owned systems, within an approved scope and rules of engagement. \nThis position may require extended hours, and interns are eligible for overtime pay. \nEqual Opportunity Employer\nGeneral Matter is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with General Matter is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.\nCompensation and Benefits\nThe hourly pay range for this internship is $32-$46 per hour, depending on the candidate's current standing in school (i.e. sophomore, senior).\nInterns will receive a monthly housing stipend, and are eligible for overtime pay. Please note that the stated hourly range is an estimate and may be adjusted based on market conditions, business needs, or other factors.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6297,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Nuclear Energy","Nuclear Engineering"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-15T18:57:25Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":63,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.632,"p_room":1,"age_days":7,"expected_fill_days":47,"reasons":["conf:1","stale_co","velocity","win:early","comp:junior,brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-23T05:54:15Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":92000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/general-matter-summer-2027-internship-information-security-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/general-matter-summer-2027-internship-information-security-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-23T08:41:40Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":13959,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-24T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":171806},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=171806"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fgeneral-matter-summer-2027-internship-information-security-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fgeneral-matter-summer-2027-internship-information-security-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fgeneral-matter-summer-2027-internship-information-security-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/general-matter-summer-2027-internship-information-security-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fgeneral-matter-summer-2027-internship-information-security-engineer"}]}
