As a Senior Data Scientist at General Mills, you will apply your strong expertise in machine learning, data mining, and information retrieval to design, prototype, and build next-generation advanced analytics engines and services. You will collaborate with product owners, business partners, and other Data Scientists to define the technical problem statement and the hypothesis to test. In addition, you will develop efficient and accurate analytical models that mimic business decisions\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:\nDesign & implementation of AI solutions for semi-structured data, covering problem framing, data curation, and evaluation across classification, entity extraction & summarization.\n\nDevelop high-quality Agentic AI and RAG workflows, optimizing ingestion, chunking, embeddings, and vector indexing with established frameworks and stores to maximize retrieval performance.\n\nTechnically evaluate novel technology to help inform on the best effort/improvement tradeoffs.\n\nQuickly learn and iterate with novel technologies/procedures, particularly but not exclusively around generative AI.\n\nResponsible for monitoring and improvement of model performance metrics and recommendations with feedback incorporated from business partners.\n\nImplement appropriate generative AI techniques and technologies to solve business problems, including prompt and LLM fine-tuning, RAG, agentic workflows, and tool designs.\n\nHelp business stakeholders translate their objectives into measurable outcomes.\n\nApply critical thinking to frame business needs into statistical problems and develop solutions that balance technical completeness/complexity and timely value delivery.\n\nBe a storyteller to explain the ‘why and how’ of your recommendations to build trust in your solutions.\n\nHave passion to advocate and educate on the value and importance of data-driven decision-making and analytical methods.\n\nIdentify and develop long-term data science processes, frameworks, tools, and standards.\n\nBe a part of the team, collaborate, ask questions, engage, and solicit feedback from other Data Scientists.\n\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:\nBachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics or other related fields\n\n6+ years of relevant experience with at least 2 years of relevant experience in Data Science.\n\nStrong foundation of statistical reasoning and critical thinking, with a proven track record of effectively finding solutions to stakeholder problem statements.\n\nExperience with Python, including some exposure to package development and foundational programming principles.\n\nSome experience with generative AI concepts, including embeddings, LLMs, agents, and RAG.\n\nExperience writing complex SQL queries.\n\nUnderstanding data warehousing and complex databases\n\nExperience with machine learning and data visualization tools.\n\nNumber sense, ability to identify questionable data, dig in and address it.\n\nStrong communication and collaboration skills to understand business needs, frame problems in familiar language (without compromising statistical fidelity), and present solutions that clearly translate to business value.\n\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:\nExperience developing and deploying Python packages and managing large-scale projects\n\nExperience developing/deploying generative AI technology, including agents, RAG, or similar.\n\nExperience with Google Cloud Platform or similar technology.\n\nApplied experience in consumer goods/supply chain\n\nMaster’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Statistics preferred.\n\nADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:\nApplicants for this position must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, and General Mills will not sponsor applicants for this position for work visas.\n\nSALARY RANGE\nThe salary range for this position is:\n$110,800 - $184,800\nAt General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role.
