This role will support battery manufacturing, product development, quality investigations, and advanced electrification programs through routine chemical testing and analytical method development. The successful candidate will generate high-quality data, communicate technical findings, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and research teams to solve complex battery-related challenges.\nWhat You'll Do\nPerform hands-on analysis of automotive and battery materials using standard and custom test methods.\nMaintain analytical instrumentation, ensuring functional readiness through preventive maintenance and diagnostics.\nAuthor comprehensive reports detailing analytical results and findings.\nEstablish timelines and project plans to meet internal and external customer expectations.\nConsult with cross-functional technical teams as a subject matter expert in chemical measurement.\nApply data-driven problem-solving skills to analyze, diagnose, and recommend solutions based on lab test data.\nAdapt to changing project scopes and manage ambiguity effectively.\nEvaluate and implement emerging analytical methods and technologies to improve characterization capabilities and laboratory efficiency.\nAdhere strictly to General Motors safety practices and laboratory protocols.\nWork effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.\nYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)\nBachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related scientific field.\n2+ years of practical experience with chemical, electrochemical, and/or battery cell standard testing.\nWhat Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)\nMaster of Science degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.\nStrong knowledge of battery analysis techniques (e.g., cell teardowns, lithium plating mapping, porosity analysis, electrode material characterization, and coin cell building/testing).\nProficiency with FTIR, Raman, Ion Chromatography (IC), Gas Chromatography (GC), and Mass Spectrometry (MS) instrumentation.\nFamiliarity with Li-ion battery benchmarking and safe cell teardown processes.\nWorking knowledge of ASTM chemical analysis standards.\nUnderstanding of chemical interactions within automotive systems.\nDFSS Experience (Green or Black Belt).\n\nGM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
