Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard -from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.\nEvery day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.\nThe role\nGeneral Motors is seeking a Compartment Integration Design Engineer (CIDE) to support General Arrangement / vehicle packaging, 3D part creation for physical buck development, and Virtual Reality/Mixed Reality evaluations for advanced electric vehicle programs.\nThis role is an opportunity to connect engineering requirements, vehicle dimensions, 3D geometry, physical evaluation tools, and immersive technology. You will help translate program criteria and design intent into accurate G/As, packaging studies, fabrication-ready 3D math, and VR/MR review environments that enable fast, confident decisions about occupant accommodation, visibility, spaciousness, access, and overall vehicle experience.\nThe successful candidate is technically curious, detail-oriented, comfortable working across disciplines, and motivated by the opportunity to shape vehicle development before the product exists physically.\nWhat you’ll do (Responsibilities)\nExecute compartment integration and packaging work within assigned vehicle programs and architecture scope.\nCreate, update, and maintain General Arrangements, including criteria, status, and program-level dimensional deliverables as applicable.\nCreate and manage 3D math for seating bucks and other physical properties, including wood structure, foam, stringers, touch-point parts, trim, and other program-specific content.\nConvert design and engineering intent into fabrication-ready part geometry, section views, 2D drawings, assembly data, and organized data packages for shop or mill fabrication.\nVerify part interfaces, assembly relationships, material intent, and dimensional accuracy before releasing or transmitting data for fabrication.\nSupport updates to physical bucks and mixed-reality content so program teams can evaluate current status and alternative solutions quickly.\nPrepare and support VR/MR reviews for visibility and occupant accommodation, including program math, competitor math, seating buck data, viewpoints, occupant eye points, headset or tracker setup, and scene alignment.\nHelp conduct immersive evaluations for forward field of view, over-the-shoulder visibility, reach, access, spaciousness, and other occupant-related attributes.\nCapture observations, communicate findings, and help translate immersive review results into actionable engineering or design changes.\nPartner with VCLEs, CAMs, CIDEs, SDEs, VMA, Studio, Human Factors, Safety, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to resolve integration issues.\nMaintain accurate part, file, drawing, and review information so downstream teams can make decisions from reliable data.\nIdentify non-routine issues, escalate risks with supporting data, and recommend process or tool improvements.\nShare methods and lessons learned to expand team capability in G/A, 3D math, physical buck development, and VR/MR execution.\nYour Skills and Abilities (Required qualifications)\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Technology, Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or a related discipline\n2 years of experience with automotive product development, vehicle packaging, dimensional engineering, CAD, product design, or a related engineering/design discipline.\nDemonstrated ability to create or modify accurate 3D CAD geometry and interpret engineering, design, and dimensional requirements.\nWorking knowledge of vehicle integration concepts such as occupant accommodation, visibility, ergonomics, clearances, interfaces, and packaging trade-offs.\nAbility to work independently on standard deliverables, manage competing priorities, identify issues, and follow through to closure.\nStrong communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings through clear models, drawings, studies, and presentations.\nAbility to collaborate effectively with design, engineering, human factors, manufacturing, and program stakeholders.\nPreferred qualifications\nExperience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, VAS, TCVis, VRED, or comparable automotive CAD, PLM, visualization, or immersive-evaluation tools.\nExperience creating 3D math and 2D drawings for physical mockups, seating bucks, prototypes, fixtures, or fabricated parts.\nExperience with physical buck development, bench or mill fabrication, foam and wood construction, or shop-ready data preparation.\nExperience preparing or facilitating Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, HMD, or tracked physical/virtual evaluations.\nFamiliarity with VR scene setup, coordinate alignment, H-point or eye-point placement, headset/tracker calibration, and competitor or program math preparation.\nExperience evaluating occupant accommodation, driver visibility, reach, access, spaciousness, storage, or other human-factors attributes.\nExperience in an advanced vehicle development, vehicle architecture, compartment integration, studio integration, or occupant accommodations environment.\nInterest in improving repeatability and efficiency through templates, automation, reusable data structures, or standardized processes.\nWhat will help you succeed\nYou connect the “why” behind a dimension or requirement to the customer experience it enables.\nYou can move comfortably between 2D requirements, 3D geometry, physical build needs, and immersive evaluation.\nYou are precise with data and understand that small errors in geometry, coordinate systems, interfaces, or file organization can affect downstream decisions.\nYou use evidence to challenge assumptions and propose practical alternatives.\nYou are comfortable working in ambiguity and bringing structure to evolving program needs.\nYou build trust by being responsive, prepared, transparent about risks, and accountable for follow-through.\nWhy join us\nYou will work on advanced electric vehicle programs and help shape the connection between vehicle architecture, human experience, and digital development. Your work will enable design and engineering teams to evaluate important decisions earlier-using the right combination of analysis, 3D math, physical buck content, and immersive technology.\nGeneral Motors is committed to being a workplace that is welcoming to all.
