The Interiors Engineering Designer is responsible for creating detailed interior components and system-level designs that combine functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal. Working closely with Architecture, Studio Design, Safety, and Manufacturing teams, this role ensures that innovative concepts are translated into robust, manufacturable solutions. The ideal candidate demonstrates advanced NX CAD modeling skills, attention to detail, and the ability to apply engineering principles to meet occupant safety, ergonomic, and assembly requirements. Creativity, collaboration, and self-motivation are essential, as this position balances design intent, customer experience, and manufacturing feasibility throughout the architectural development process of interiors.\nWhat you'll do:\nDevelop highly integrated subsystems to resolve packaging challenges, ensuring design best practices and criteria are maintained.\nDevelop and integrate engineering criteria for interior components collaborating closely with Vehicle Architecture, Studio Styling and Release Engineer teams.\nApply DFSS and design-thinking methodologies to manage trade-offs and evaluate alternatives considering cost, mass, timing, dimensional variation, assembly, and other architectural imperatives.\nIntegrate global and regional safety requirements into interior architectures, developing solutions that exceed standards.\nActively communicate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical challenges within Expert Team meetings for your area of responsibility.\nEnsure that interior subsystems align with safety, occupant accommodations, storage, and accessibility.\nParticipate in CITs and SDIT Workgroups to balance innovation, design for assembly, manufacturability and interior best practices.\nBenchmark competitive interiors to ensure packaging and component performance meet or exceed industry standards.\nCreate and maintain NX models for surface guidance and space claims, continuously developing your NX skills.\nIncorporate Voice of the Customer insights into interior packaging and design solutions to maximize space utilization and enhance customer experience.\nSupport Math Virtual Assessments and Synch Point reviews to validate design integrity and integration.\nYour Skills & Abilities (Qualifications)\n5+ years’ experience in a related area\nB.S. in Engineering or related field\nAdvanced NX CAD Modeling Skills\nAdvanced use of Teamcenter and TcVis\nUnderstanding engineering theory and principles of automotive design\nUnderstanding of design for manufacturing and design for assembly\nExcellent oral and written communication skills\nUtilization of benchmarking toolsets\nDemonstrated ability to work independently and with others\nAptitude to integrate complex interior subsystems and a passion for innovation\nExcellent organizational skills\nUnderstanding of Engineering Specifications\nUnderstanding of human to vehicle interface\nWhat Will Give You a Competitive Edge\nGraduate degree in Engineering or related field\nInstrument Panel and/or Floor Console subsystem experience\nDevelopment of standard math models (SMM), user defined features, or templates\nKnowledge and use of CAE tools\nDesign for Six Sigma (DFSS) Certification\nGM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
