In this role, you will help develop, launch, maintain, and continuously improve manufacturing processes that support safe, reliable, high-quality production.\nYou will work closely with production, quality, maintenance, controls, design, supplier, and program teams to solve complex problems and deliver robust processes from concept through production. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys working on the plant floor, using data to make decisions, and turning improvement opportunities into sustainable results.\nWhat you’ll do\nDevelop, document, and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling, equipment, and production methods.\nSupport assembly, test, and driveline-related manufacturing activities as assigned.\nLead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity issues.\nUse lean manufacturing, structured problem-solving, process capability, and continuous-improvement methods to improve operational performance.\nPartner with production teams to identify process risks, eliminate waste, and improve ergonomics and operator effectiveness.\nSupport equipment, tooling, controls, and process changes through design reviews, installation, validation, and production release.\nDevelop and maintain process documentation, standard work, PFMEA inputs, control plans, process flow documentation, and other manufacturing engineering records.\nParticipate in new product introduction, manufacturing readiness, build events, run-at-rate activities, and launch execution.\nAnalyze manufacturing data and communicate findings, risks, recommendations, and project status to technical and business stakeholders.\nCoordinate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to resolve issues and achieve project milestones.\nPromote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.\nRequired qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, or a related engineering discipline or equivalent related experience \nExperience applying engineering principles to manufacturing, production, assembly, testing, or process improvement.\nExperience with structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis.\nAbility to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, process documentation, and technical data.\nStrong analytical, communication, organization, and project-management skills.\nAbility to work effectively with hourly production employees, skilled trades, engineers, suppliers, and leadership.\nAbility to work on-site in a manufacturing environment and support occasional off-shift, weekend, or extended-hour activities when business needs require.\nPreferred qualifications\nExperience in automotive, powertrain, driveline, assembly, test, or high-volume manufacturing.\nExperience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, PFMEA, control plans, APQP, GD&T, or statistical process control.\nExperience supporting manufacturing equipment, automation, robotics, controls, or error-proofing systems.\nExperience with CAD, manufacturing execution systems, data analysis, or process simulation tools.\nGreen Belt, Black Belt, or other continuous-improvement certification.\nExperience supporting product launches, capacity planning, or capital projects.\nWhat makes you successful\nYou are comfortable moving between technical analysis and hands-on work on the plant floor.\nYou build trust with production and cross-functional partners.\nYou identify problems early, communicate clearly, and follow issues through to closure.\nYou balance immediate production needs with long-term process capability and sustainability.\nYou use facts and data to prioritize work and make sound engineering decisions.\nYou promote safe, inclusive, and respectful collaboration across the organization.\nWork environment\nThis position is based at the Grand Rapids COMP facility and requires regular presence in manufacturing and office environments. The role may require standing, walking, wearing required personal protective equipment, and working near operating equipment, production lines, and industrial noise.\n\nGM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
