This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham or Oshawa office three times per week, at minimum.\nThe Role:\nGeneral Motors is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Staff Engineer of Software Engineering, Embedded Platform. As a Continuous Integration Developer (Architect Level), you will define the architecture, standards, and strategy for how GM builds, tests, and deploys virtualized vehicle software. You’ll leverage your strengths in CI/CD, embedded systems, and automation while expanding into cloud orchestration, IaC, progressive delivery, and data driven simulation. This role is ideal for someone ready to broaden their technical impact and shape the future of GM’s virtual development platform. This position will play a critical role in ensuring that our products are on the leading edge of innovation while meeting the highest standards of quality, reliability, and safety, with a specific focus on the embedded real time software for our in-vehicle mechatronic systems.\nSpecific job responsibilities include:\n· Be a critical leader of software engineering productivity and effectiveness\n· Identify opportunities, strategies, process improvements, and lead the change\n· Be hands-on by leading high impact efforts\n· Be a strong communicator, coach, and mentor\n· Analyze unusual and difficult problems effectively\n· Ability to connect multiple initiatives together to deliver higher value\n· Visualize required innovation, learning and simplification in this space and transition the team to execute what is required to achieve\n· Maintain command skills and empathy at the same time\n· Architect enterprise-scale CI/CD systems for embedded, simulation, and cloud workloads.\n· Define branching, release, and quality-gate standards across multiple engineering domains.\n· Design GitOps-based delivery for multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.\n· Lead progressive delivery strategy including automated rollback and analysis.\n· Establish IaC architecture using Terraform modules and multi-environment patterns.\n· Integrate security and compliance into pipelines and artifact flows.\n· Define observability standards for pipelines, simulation workloads, and runtime systems.\n· Mentor DevOps and simulation developers across the organization.\n Qualifications/Requirements\n· Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent experience\n· 15 years of experience in software development\n· Deep understanding of software architecture for real time systems\n· Experience shipping high quality safety critical products\n· Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail\n· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.\n· Demonstrated ability to work in an action-oriented decision-making environment\n· Deep Kubernetes knowledge including cluster operations.\n· Strong Terraform/IaC experience with production-grade module design.\n· Experience with embedded or simulation workflows (vECUs, SIL, FMU, SSP).\n· Cloud architecture experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP.\nCompensation:\nThe salary range for this role is $186,000 to $236,000.
