Working within centralized manufacturing engineering and transitioning to assembly plant or metal center operations, this role leads cross-functional development from concept through production validation. The engineer partners with Body Quality, BIW/GA, Controls, Robotics, Conveyance, Vehicle Systems, suppliers, and launch teams to deliver capable, integrated systems on program timing. This position requires significant ownership, initiative, and independent judgment in establishing robust measurement and dimensional control processes at launch and in production.\nWhat You'll Do\nLead the development and implementation of automated body assembly and vehicle measurement systems, including equipment, tooling, process sequence and flow, facilities, controls integration, installation, and dimensional validation.\nPartner with the ME Body Quality Team, BIW/GA Manufacturing Engineers, Commodity Integration Sources, Vehicle Systems Engineers, Launch Execution Teams, and Plant Dimensional personnel to deliver measurement solutions.\nDevelop detailed zone processes, conversion timing, and cost estimates for new and existing programs while ensuring deliverables meet program timing.\nDevelop Statements of Requirements (SORs) for sourced measurement, tooling, and automation equipment systems and manage suppliers and integrators through delivery.\nDefine dimensional measurement strategies with VDQM, Body and GA Quality Leads, and Plant Dimensional personnel.\nManage system development through concept, processing, tool design, construction, integration, installation, and dimensional validation in an assembly plant or metal center.\nDeliver a tuned-in body in accordance with Manufacturing Validation requirements, including MV-1 and PED114, and incorporate lessons learned and continuous improvements into standards, procedures, processes, and tool designs.\nYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience.\n3+ years of experience in Body Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering.\nExperience developing automated systems in a Body Shop, with a thorough understanding of processing, design, construction, integration, and launch requirements.\nDemonstrated project management experience with suppliers and integrators to ensure timely delivery of equipment and systems.\nExpertise in body manufacturing and assembly processes, with experience in dimensional quality and/or measurement systems.\nGeneral knowledge of statistics and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).\nHigh analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage diverse assignments concurrently.\nStrong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to lead, motivate, facilitate, and instruct others cross-functionally.\nAbility to work effectively in a team environment and exercise sound independent judgment in a plant and manufacturing setting.\nWhat Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)\nExperience with inspection systems using moving and fixed cameras.\nBody shop launch and assembly plant experience.\nExperience troubleshooting tooling issues.\nExperience with dimensional process control.\nProficiency with GOM software.\nKnowledge of Teamcenter Visualization and Mockup.\nManufacturing processing and/or launch experience.\n\nGM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
