This role sets technical direction for a product area, drives cross-team alignment, and raises the bar for Android engineering quality across the organization.\nKey Responsibilities\nOwn end-to-end design and implementation of complex Android infotainment features and services, from requirements through deployment and maintenance.\n\nDefine and evolve application and system architectures (e.g., modularization, data contracts, error handling, state management) across multiple apps and services.\n\nLead technical investigations and resolution of complex issues involving Android framework, vehicle services, vendor stacks, and hardware constraints.\n\nPartner with Product, UX, Systems, and Platform teams to translate PRDs and system requirements into robust Android designs.\n\nGuidethe adoption of best practices for performance, stability, observability, and testability in an in-vehicle environment.\n\nMentor and coach other engineers, providing guidance on design reviews, code quality, and debugging strategies.\n\nInfluence platform and toolchain decisions (Android version upgrades, AGP/JDK/Kotlin moves, CI/CD, quality gates) and drive their rollout.\n\nCollaborate with Tier-1/SOC vendors and internal platform teams on Android bring-up, integration, and certification topics.\n\n Core Technical Requirements:\n8-10+ years of professional Android development experience, including shipping andoperatinglarge, complex apps or system components in production.\n\nStrongproficiencyin Kotlin and Java; comfort with C++/Golangfor performance-critical or legacy components.\n\nDeep understanding of Android internals and app architecture:\n\nComponents, lifecycles, concurrency, permissions, multi-processand multi-user behavior.\n\nModern patterns such as MVVM and Clean Architecture, with a focus on testability and clear boundaries.\n\nDevelopment experience in 3D Filament/Unreal/Unity/OpenGL ES/Vulkan\n\nExperience with large, modular Gradle-based Android codebases (multi-module projects, shared libraries, feature flags)and usage of AI (Curson/Claude) in development.\n\n Android Automotive / Infotainment Experience:\nHands-on experience building applications or middleware for Android Automotive or other embedded/IVI systems.\n\nFamiliarity with AAOS/AOSP for automotive:\n\nFramework services,CarService, VHAL/CarProperty, and profile/user models.\n\nPlatform constraints and safety/distraction considerations for in-vehicle UIs.\n\nExperience integrating infotainment apps with:\n\nVehicle signals and services (e.g., vehicle data, profiles, settings).\n\nAudio, media, Bluetooth, connectivity, navigation, or projection stacks (Android Auto, CarPlay).\n\n System Design, Performance, and Reliability:\nProven ability to design scalable, maintainable architectures that work under tight CPU, memory, storage, and boot-time constraints.\n\nExperience analyzing and improving performance (startup time, rendering, memory, threading) in resource-constrained or real-time environments.\n\nStrong debugging skills across the Android stack (logs, traces, ANRs, crashes, binder issues, resource leaks).\n\n Platform, Build, and Tooling:\nDeep experience with Gradle, Android Gradle Plugin, and Android SDK/NDK tooling (build optimization, dependency management, reproducible builds).\n\nProven experience contributing to multi-release Android platform upgrades (e.g., 2+ major version jumps):\n\nResolving API and behavior changes.\n\nUpdating AGP/JDK/Kotlin and SDK/build-tools.\n\nCoordinating regression-fix efforts across multiple teams.\n\nComfortable working directly with AOSP-style trees and manifests (repo, branches, rebases, vendor drops).\n\n Quality, Testing, and Observability:\nStrong background in automated testing:\n\nUnit tests (JUnit), instrumentation/UI tests (Espresso), and integration tests.\n\nTestable design and dependency injection for Android components.\n\nExperience with code-quality and static-analysis tooling (e.g., lint, coverage, SonarQube or equivalent) and integrating them into CI pipelines.\n\nAbility to define logging, metrics, and analytics strategies suited for in-vehicle systems with intermittent connectivity and strict safety/privacy requirements.\n\nLeadership and Collaboration:\nDemonstratedtrack recordof technical leadership:\n\nSetting technical direction for a domain or product area.\n\nDriving alignment across multiplefeatureor platform teams.\n\nExperience mentoring senior and mid-level engineers; raising code and design-review standards.\n\nStrong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, UX, Systems, DevOps, QA, and external partners.\n\nClear, concise communication of complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\n Nice to Have\nExperience with Google Automotive Services (GAS), certification requirements, orxTS(CTS/VTS/XTS) test suites.\n\nBackground in safety- or security-sensitive domains (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical devices) with relevant coding or process standards.\n\nFamiliarity with virtualization or bench-based development and testing workflows for infotainment systems.\n\nEducation and Training\nBachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, ComputerEngineering,or Software Engineering. Compensation:\nThe salary range for this role is $147,000 to $196,600.
