Our software is delivered as libraries, apps, and services on Android, Linux, and QNX and covers four areas. The control plane retrieves configuration from the cloud and applies it across the vehicle's ECUs. The data plane collects, processes, and forwards data from vehicle systems to cloud storage. The SDK lets application teams use the platform. The unified logging infrastructure manages logs across the vehicle software stack.\nWe are looking for a Staff Software Developer to set technical direction and lead the work that spans these areas. You will make architecture decisions with the team, lead initiatives across organizations, and mentor senior and junior engineers. You will work with application, platform, cloud, cybersecurity, and privacy teams to deliver software on production ECUs with limited CPU, memory, storage, and bandwidth.\nWhat You'll Do (Responsibilities)\nSet technical direction for the control plane (configuration, arbitration, lifecycle) and the data plane (streaming and file based transfer), and for how the two integrate.\nDrive the technical direction of how we manage thousands of vehicles from a single control plane, including configuration distribution, version management, device identity, and remote diagnostics.\nDesign the unified logging infrastructure that manages logs across the vehicle software stack.\nDefine the SDK architecture, API design, versioning, and adoption approach for application teams across the vehicle software stack.\nSet the approach for delivering the team's software on Android, Linux, and QNX across every General Motors compute module.\nDesign, implement, and maintain on vehicle software across these areas, and stay involved in the code through design work, code reviews, and prototyping.\nOptimize data egress and configuration delivery over intermittent connectivity, the speed of convergence to new configuration, and the CPU and memory footprint on the target ECU.\nIntegrate with cloud services such as Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery, device state reporting, and data egress.\nSet standards for reliability, performance, data privacy, and resource use on production ECUs.\nDefine health metrics and observability for the software in production, and lead incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.\nLead initiatives across organizations with application, platform, cloud, cybersecurity, privacy, and DevOps teams to drive integration, alignment, and adoption.\nWork with product stakeholders to define the SDK roadmap based on application team needs and fleet data requirements.\nReport status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and partner teams.\nContribute to the open source community by reporting issues, contributing to documentation, and submitting patches.\nMentor senior and junior engineers, support team growth, and promote best practices within the software community.\nYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.\n6+ years of hands on development experience in C, C++, and related languages.\nExperience developing software for Linux, Android, and QNX platforms.\nUnderstanding of distributed systems, configuration management, and large scale data pipelines.\nExperience designing, developing, or operating a control plane, fleet management system, or other large scale distributed coordination service.\nExperience designing logging or telemetry software for operational visibility at fleet scale.\nExperience delivering SDKs or libraries used by other engineering teams, including API design, versioning, and adoption support.\nUnderstanding of network communication and security protocols, including mTLS and certificate based device identity.\nFamiliarity with Autosar standards.\nExperience leading initiatives across organizations.\nExpertise in software development and optimization.\nExperience troubleshooting issues in production environments.\nTechnical communication and design documentation skills, including presenting status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership.\nHas delivered software in a production environment and supported it once in the field.\nWhat Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)\nFamiliarity with vehicle communication protocols (UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP).\nFamiliarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their device management services (IoT Hub, IoT Core, Pub/Sub, or equivalent).\nFamiliarity with OpenTelemetry, protobuf, and gRPC.\nExperience building fleet management, OTA, or remote configuration systems, and contributions to Fluent Bit or other data intensive open source projects.\nExperience working with Firestore.\nKnowledge of security best practices for device provisioning, configuration delivery, and authentication of cloud to device traffic.\nExperience designing driver or HMI initiated capture flows, such as create and upload data.\nAutomotive domain familiarity: ECU architectures, SoC platforms, diagnostics, failure and crash analysis.\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.\nCompensation:\nThe salary range for this role is $147,000 to $196,600.
