As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll design, develop, and evolve distributed systems that process high volumes of events and provide critical capabilities to teams across Genesys.\nYou’ll tackle complex challenges involving scalability, performance, resilience, and observability while helping shape the technical direction of our streaming platform. Working with software engineers and cross-functional partners, you’ll also contribute to engineering standards, share your expertise, and help the team build reliable systems that are easier to operate and evolve.\nWhat you’ll do\nDesign, develop, test, deploy, and operate highly available event-streaming services and platform capabilities built around Apache Kafka.\nLead technical design and implementation for complex distributed-system and streaming-platform initiatives.\nImprove the scalability, reliability, performance, security, and cost efficiency of Kafka infrastructure and supporting services.\nDevelop automation and tooling that simplifies platform operations, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.\nDiagnose complex production issues across distributed systems and implement sustainable solutions that improve platform resilience.\nCollaborate with analytics, platform, product, and engineering teams to understand requirements and develop effective technical solutions.\nProvide technical guidance through architecture discussions, code reviews, mentoring, documentation, and knowledge sharing.\nWhat you bring\nSignificant professional software engineering experience developing and operating production software or platform services.\nStrong proficiency in Java, with working experience in Python, or vice versa. \nExperience designing and operating distributed, event-driven, or data-intensive systems.\nHands-on experience administering and operating Apache Kafka in production environments, including responsibility for platform reliability, performance, scaling, and troubleshooting. Comparable event-streaming technology experience may also be considered.\nExperience developing and operating production systems in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or comparable cloud environments.\nStrong understanding of distributed-systems concepts, including availability, consistency, fault tolerance, and scalability.\nExperience with automated testing, CI/CD, observability, source control, and production operations.\nAbility to influence technical decisions and communicate complex concepts clearly across teams.\nPreferred qualifications\nDeep experience with Apache Kafka, including topics, partitions, consumer groups, replication, performance tuning, and failure recovery.\nExperience with Kafka Connect, Kafka Streams, Schema Registry, or related streaming technologies.\nExperience with Kubernetes, containers, and infrastructure-as-code technologies.\nKnowledge of monitoring and observability practices for large-scale distributed systems.\nExperience improving the performance, capacity, availability, or cost efficiency of high-throughput production platforms.\nWhy join the Kafka team?\nYou’ll work on foundational streaming infrastructure at the heart of the Genesys platform, solving engineering challenges where scale, resilience and performance genuinely matter.
