Our engineers develop everything from roadside hardware and embedded software to computer vision pipelines, distributed cloud infrastructure, and real-time data services. We are responsible for the reliability, accuracy, and security of the our sensor network and the data products it fuels.\nOperating across edge, cloud, and field environments, the team partners closely with Deployment, Data Science, and Product to turn complex, real-world requirements into scalable systems that function under demanding conditions and national-level workloads. We value technical rigor, speed of execution, and a commitment to building durable infrastructure that delivers measurable, mission-critical impact.\nABOUT THE JOB\nAs a Director of Software Engineering for GenLogs, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for building, deploying, and scaling our core applications that tens of thousands of users rely on daily to fulfill critical supply chain operations.\nThis is a cross-disciplinary people leadership role spanning cloud/software platforms and solid understanding of machine learning and developing analytical based products. You will lead and develop a team of engineers while setting technical direction, establishing strong engineering practices, and ensuring the organization can deliver reliable products at scale.\nYou will work closely with Product, Deployment, Data Science, and company leadership to translate product strategy and real-world operational requirements into an effective engineering roadmap. You’ll be responsible for creating the structure, processes, and technical foundation needed to move quickly without sacrificing reliability, quality, or long-term scalability.\nThis role is ideal for together reliably in the field.\nWHAT YOU’LL DO Lead & Develop the Engineering Organization\nLead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team spanning software engineering, product development, machine learning applications, and agentic development.\nBuild a high-performing engineering culture centered on ownership, technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.\nEstablish clear expectations, goals, career development paths, and performance standards for engineers and engineering leaders.\nRecruit and retain exceptional engineering talent as the disciplines and ensure teams operate with shared goals and accountability.\nSet Technical Direction\nDefine and evolve the technical strategy and architecture for the user facing applications and services\nGuide architectural decisions and technical tradeoffs across the full product lifecycle.\nEnsure engineering investments balance near-term product delivery with long-term reliability, scalability, maintainability, and cost.\nEstablish engineering standards and practices that enable teams to move quickly while maintaining a high bar for quality.\nIdentify technical risks and dependencies early and drive them to resolution.\nPartner with senior engineers to evaluate new technologies, tools, and approaches that can improve the product and engineering organization.\nDrive Product Delivery\nPartner closely with Product and Deployment to translate business and customer requirements into executable engineering plans.\nOwn engineering execution against product and technology roadmaps, ensuring teams are aligned on priorities and delivery expectations.\nCreate effective planning and development processes that provide visibility into progress, risks, dependencies, and resource requirements.\nRemove organizational and technical blockers and ensure teams maintain a strong bias toward action.\nEnsure hardware and software development are coordinated effectively across design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.\nEstablish mechanisms for learning from field deployments and incorporating operational feedback into product and engineering decisions.\nBuild Reliable, Scalable Systems\nDrive improvements in system availability, performance, observability, security, and operational resilience.\nEstablish rigorous testing and validation practices across hardware, embedded software, and cloud systems.\nPartner with Deployment and Operations to improve installation, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of deployed systems.\nDevelop processes for diagnosing and resolving complex production and field issues with urgency and ownership.\nEnsure engineering teams build systems that can scale from current deployments to a national-level sensing network.\nCollaborate Across the Company\nServe as the senior engineering partner to Product leadership for user facing product lines\nWork closely with Deployment to ensure engineering solutions are practical, supportable, and optimized for real-world deployment.\nPartner with Data Science and Data Engineering teams to ensure sensor systems produce accurate, reliable, and usable data.\nCommunicate technical strategy, roadmap, tradeoffs, and risks clearly to company leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.\nBuild strong relationships across the organization and create alignment around technical and business priorities.\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS\n10+ years of engineering experience, with significant experience leading engineering teams and organizations.\n5+ years of people management experience, including experience managing senior engineers and/or engineering managers.\nExperience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across two or more of the following: hardware, embedded systems, edge computing, backend software, cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems.\nExperience building and operating products that combine physical hardware with software systems.\nProven experience scaling engineering teams, processes, and technical infrastructure as a company or product grows.\nStrong technical understanding of modern software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and production systems.\nExperience establishing engineering standards, development processes, testing practices, and operational excellence.\nDemonstrated ability to make sound technical and organizational decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.\nStrong track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering talent.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical
