Job Description

Lead and manage a team of tax analysts or associates handling direct and indirect tax compliance.

Allocate tasks, monitor team performance, and ensure deadlines and service level agreements (SLAs) are met.

Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance to the team on tax-related matters.

2. Tax Compliance & Filing

Oversee the preparation and filing of all statutory tax returns, including:

Direct taxes: corporate income tax, withholding tax

Indirect taxes: VAT/GST, sales tax, service tax, excise duties

Ensure timely and accurate submission of tax returns to avoid penalties or interest.

3. Tax Accounting & Reporting

Review tax provisions and deferred tax calculations for monthly/quarterly closings.

Support preparation of tax disclosures in financial statements in accordance with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).

Collaborate with the Record to Report (R2R) team to ensure proper tax accounting entries.

4. Audit & Assessment Support

Coordinate responses to tax audits, assessments, and notices from tax authorities.

Prepare supporting documentation and manage communication with external auditors and tax advisors.

Maintain proper documentation for all tax positions and filings to ensure audit readiness.

5. Tax Risk & Controls Management

Ensure adherence to internal controls over tax processes (e.g., SOX compliance).

Identify tax risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Maintain proper segregation of duties and control documentation.

6. Stakeholder Engagement

Liaise with internal stakeholders such as finance, legal, and operations teams to support tax compliance and planning.

Collaborate with external advisors, consultants, or tax authorities as needed.

7. Process Improvement & Automation

Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and standardization in tax workflows.

Optimize the use of tax engines or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Maintain and update SOPs and process documentation.

8. Tax Planning & Advisory Support

Support senior tax managers or corporate tax teams in strategic tax planning initiatives.

Assist with transfer pricing compliance, intercompany transactions, and cross-border taxation issues.

Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation and assess potential impacts on the business.

9. Data Management & Reconciliation

Ensure accuracy of tax data, returns, and reconciliations (e.g., GL vs. tax returns).

Perform periodic reconciliations of tax accounts and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
