This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of genetics, data, and business decision-making while collaborating with a team of PhD geneticists and data professionals. The intern will support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of applications, programs, and data pipelines that provide critical insights across our dairy business. Through hands-on experience with root cause analysis, data pipeline optimization, application enhancement, and data-driven decision-making, the intern will gain valuable exposure to real-world business challenges, process improvement initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration. This role is ideal for a highly analytical individual with an interest in data applications, quantitative analysis, and advancing genetic improvement through innovative technology solutions.\nIn this position you will work 40 hours per week, typically during normal office hours, but times could range on a day-to-day basis.\nThe hourly compensation range for this position is ($20 - $24) USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.\nThis position will close for applications on November 15th.\nYou Will\nYou will:\nUse various statistical and analytic tools to complete data mining, data pipeline development, and data analysis.\nConduct experiment design and/or investigate new models and methods.\nGenerate information to inform genetic strategies, genetic program development, and custom genetic indices in support of advances within the ABS proprietary genetic program.\nUphold the Genus core values, mission, and vision.\nPosition may require working outside of normal business hours.\nPerform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.\nRequirements\nBasic Qualifications: (required)\nMS or PhD student in Animal Science, Plant Science, Quantitative Genetics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field, required\nStrong analytical skills, familiarity with statistical packages (R, Python, etc.), and preferred experience with scripting or programming tools\nAvailable for at least 12 weeks during the summer\nAuthorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with genetic/genomic data, bioinformatics, estimating breeding values, and/or breeding index development.\nDirect agricultural experience (plant or animal).\nStrong interest in genetic data analysis, using data to develop on-farm genetic strategies, genetic program development, and custom genetic indices.\nBusiness Overview\nGenus is an agricultural biotechnology pioneer.
