These tasks require technical knowledge and expertise gained through an animal sciences background to ensure ongoing scientific research and animal breeding can be successfully conducted. Education background will usually be in veterinary sciences, zoology, or equivalent sciences. This role is conducted in direct support of the efforts of our agricultural sciences professionals and our laboratory research.\nYou Will\nDaily animal husbandry tasks in support of breeding and scientific research including:Pig placement\nPig healthcare and medication, including basic veterinary procedures\nFeeding management\nEnvironment, water, and ventilation management \nOff Testing \nCollection of blood samples \nProduction records keeping \n\nMaintain accurate and timely production information and records as required by the supervising agricultural sciences professionals \nAssist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows\nComplete all tasks pertaining to farrowing, including fostering, weaning, and processing litters \nTreat sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and/or other methods as required\nMaintain facility biosecurity, including sanitizing and washing multiple areas using high pressure equipment, as well as office cleanliness and laundry duties to avoid contamination or animals and research samples \nFlexibility with a willingness to change plans according to the direction of farm leadership\nAdhere to the Company’s animal care policies and procedures including: providing a physical environment that meets the animal’s needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia\nRead and understand the company’s emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksite\nAbide by all company policies, procedures and guidelines as directed by farm leadership, including but not limited to:The Company’s Safety Program, understanding all safety requirements of the job and performing the job in compliance with those safety requirements\nThe Company’s bio-security protocols\nAll environmental laws and procedures as well as report all environmental issues immediately to supervisor\n\nWork as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and farm goals\nRequirements\nAnimal sciences degree/diploma/certificate \nPrevious livestock handling, preferred\nAbility to work both autonomously and within a team environment\nAbility to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations\nAbility to work in and maintain performance expectations in a fast-paced environment\nWork requires attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines\nMinimal, if any travel\nBusiness Overview\nGenus strives to provide beef, dairy and pork producers with superior breeding stock to enable the production of affordable and nutritious animal protein for consumers.
