This position will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and instruction of Education and Community Engagement programming. The Environmental Educator is committed to providing exceptional guest experiences while adhering to organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards in support of the Georgia Aquarium's mission and goals. In addition, this person will participate in occasional evening or weekend events including but not limited to Educator Open House, outreach opportunities, and professional development events. This position is considered a temporary position, with possibility of promotion to permanent part-time Environmental Educator after 90 days of employment with satisfactory progress toward learning goals and performance evaluation.\nResponsibilities:\nProvide learning experiences that are tailored to the needs of each individual group (schools, camps, and special interest groups).\nAssist with the development of education curricula that are hands-on and interdisciplinary (STEAM).\nAssist with the development of quality educational exhibits.\nConduct pre-visit calls with external contacts to confirm details of a school visit.\nEnsure necessary preparations and follow-up for school group visits.\nAnswer e-mails and phone inquiries regarding education programs.\nGreet school groups upon arrival and facilitate entrance into the aquarium.\nCollaborate with group sales, interpretive programs, security, zoological operations, volunteers, and other internal departments to create an exceptional guest experience.\nProvide daily support of all programs, including but not limited to escorting chaperones throughout building, school group organization, supporting special events.\nProvide the highest standard of customer service to guests.\nAdhere to all GAI Policies.\nPerform other duties as workload necessitates. \nQualifications:\nAssociate degree or higher in a science or education related field required.\nTwo or more years of experience in an educational institution .\nPrevious experience and a passion for working with children and animals a plus.\nCurrent knowledge of wildlife conservation, scientific research and environmental issues preferred.\nExceptional interpersonal skills to interact with and interpret exhibits to internal and external clients required.\nAbility to organize, manage time and set priorities while meeting deadlines.\nAbility to be flexible and shift priorities to meet departmental requirements.\nSuperior verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills are essential.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).\nPhysical Demands & Work Environment: \nThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
