Our tools help our clients to develop a better understanding of the subsurface, manage exploration and development risks and quantify reserves more accurately with our advanced geoscience technology.\nWorking at GeoSoftware is all about passion and sharing our ambition for ongoing technological innovation. We have more than 150 employees, spread over 18 different countries. Our people are our most important asset and developing our talents is a priority. As part of GeoSoftware, you will work with international and diverse teams of experts in an environment of excellence which will enable you to create your own opportunities and realize your full potential.\nJob Summary\nWe are looking foran experienced HPC and platform engineer to join our Digital Platform team.\nYou would own the execution layer of our next generation of geoscience software: the layer that takes a piece of scientific work and runs it, at the same scale and with the same result, across a range of compute environments. That range covers a single workstation, on-premise HPC under Slurm or PBS, managed services such as Databricks, cloud batch on AWS and Azure, and bring-your-own-cloud deployment into an externally administered subscription. You would also own the build and delivery pipeline that gets it there.\nBreadth is the point of the role. The same work has to run across all of those backends behind one consistent interface, deploy securely into environments we do not administer, and perform well against blob storage rather than local disk.\nYou would work in a small, senior, distributed team alongside computational algorithm and front-end engineers.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nDistributed Execution\nDesign and build the distributed execution framework: task sequencing and dependencies, elastic scaling, checkpoint and restart, retry with backoff, structured error reporting and preservation of partial output\nMake the same workload run across local multiprocessing, Dask, Ray, Slurm and PBS, managed Spark services such as Databricks, and the managed cloud batch services on Azure, AWS and GCP - behind one consistent interface, with a clear view of what each backend is actually good for\nDesign job submission, status, progress and cost reporting as structured, introspectable data, so that work can be launched and monitored programmatically and automatically as well as by hand, with guards that prevent a mistyped job from running for hours\nBuild the job admission, entitlement and metering path\nCloud and Deployment\nBuild and maintain infrastructure as code - Terraform in particular - that stands the platform up repeatably in bring-your-own-cloud and externally administered environments\nContainerize compute components as lean, independently versioned images\nImplement the security surface of a deployed system: identity and access management, least-privilege roles and service principals, secrets handling, network isolation, encryption in transit and at rest, and image and dependency scanning in the pipeline\nSupport restricted and disconnected deployment scenarios\nWork with identity, blob and object storage, networking, quotas and cost control across at least one major cloud\nPerformance\nParallel decomposition and profiling of compute-bound scientific workloads, so that throughput demonstrably scales with available CPU, GPU and storage bandwidth\nDiagnose and fix I/O-bound behaviour against blob and object storage: concurrency limits, throttling, request batching, and access patterns that are invisible on a local disk but cost minutes against a remote store\nEstablish and defend performance baselines, with measurement rather than assertion\nBuild, Release and Operations\nOwn CI/CD, build and release engineering: pipelines, a nightly regression harness, native installers for Windows and Linux, and containerized cloud delivery\nStand up observability: job lifecycle, resource utilization and cost visibility across every backend\nSupport what you build, and feed what you learn from doing so back into the design\nSkills and Competencies\nSkills:\nProduction experience with at least one distributed compute framework-Ray, Dask, Spark or MPI-and a clear view of where each is the right tool. Having run one at real scale and watched it fail is worth more than having read about all of them\nStrong Python for orchestration, services and bindings\nSolid modern C++, or the confidence to work in it: the compute kernels are native code and the binding seam is shared with the algorithm engineers\nInfrastructure as code, Terraform in particular, and experience deploying the same system into environments you do not control\nContainerization and Kubernetes, including image layering and size discipline\nWorking proficiency in one or two major cloud providers-Azure, AWS or GCP-with awareness of the others\nBlob and object storage performance in practice, not only in principle\nPractical cloud security: identity and access management, least-privilege roles, secrets management, network isolation and encryption\nCI/CD pipelines, release engineering and the operational instincts that come from having supported what you built\nStrong written English, and the habit of documenting asynchronously\nCompetencies:\nOwnership and self-direction\nSystems thinking across boundaries they do not personally own\nPragmatic judgement about where complexity is worth it\nCollaboration across disciplines\nTechnical expertise (distributed computing and platform engineering)\nAlignment with company interest\nQualifications & Requirements\nRequired:\nBachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience\nMinimum 5 years of professional engineering experience in distributed computing, HPC or cloud platform engineering\nDemonstrable production experience with a distributed compute framework\nDemonstrable experience with infrastructure as code, and working proficiency in one or two major cloud providers\nExperience owning a CI/CD and release pipeline end to end\nSound security practice in cloud and containerized deployment: identity and access management, secrets handling and least privilege\nAble to work effectively in a small, remote, multi-timezone team: writing things down, communicating asynchronously and operating without close supervision\nFluent written and spoken English\nDesired:\nHPC scheduler experience-Slurm or PBS-in a shared, contended environment\nManaged cloud batch or Spark services: Databricks, Azure Batch or AWS Batch, and a view on when each beats a long-lived cluster\nOil and gas or seismic processing background, or other large-scale scientific computing\nCloud-native, chunked array storage formats and parallel I/O\nOSDU, or other subsurface data platform integration\nGPU computing: CUDA, or GPU-accelerated numerical libraries\nSecurity certification or formal security review experience; supply-chain security, SBOM or vulnerability management\nRestricted or disconnected deployment; software licensing and entitlement enforcement\nCost attribution and capping per job, per user and per tenant\nFluent with AI coding tools for prototyping, test generation and refactoring, with the judgement to know where their output must be verified rather than trusted\nWe value the unique ways in which we differ, and we are committed to equal employment opportunities for all professionals.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7550,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"All levels","optional":false}]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Petroleum & Mining Engineering","Oil & Gas","Scientific & Lab Software"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-11-02T07:25:32Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":36,"reasons":["conf:0","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-11-03T05:54:40Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/geosoftware-senior-hpc-and-platform-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/geosoftware-senior-hpc-and-platform-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-04T05:01:35Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":7784,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-05T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":4420481},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=4420481"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fgeosoftware-senior-hpc-and-platform-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fgeosoftware-senior-hpc-and-platform-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fgeosoftware-senior-hpc-and-platform-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/geosoftware-senior-hpc-and-platform-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fgeosoftware-senior-hpc-and-platform-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3599533}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"geosoftware.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3599533},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people);
