You’ll spend time working directly in PLEX, creating and managing purchase orders, following up with suppliers, obtaining quotes, expediting critical needs, and resolving purchasing issues. But we’re looking for more than someone who can process POs.\nWe want a Buyer who is curious, commercially minded, and comfortable negotiating. Someone who will ask: Is there a better supplier? Can we negotiate a better price? Are there other options? Is there a smarter way to buy this?\nYou’ll have the opportunity to build supplier relationships, evaluate alternatives, negotiate savings, and make purchasing decisions that directly impact the effectiveness of our plant operations.\nYour Work:\nProcess purchase requisitions and manually create, issue, update, and maintain purchase orders in PLEX in accordance with established policies and procedures.\n\nProcure MRO materials, indirect services necessary to support plant maintenance and operations.\n\nReview purchasing requests to verify supplier information, pricing, quantities, specifications, delivery requirements, and commercial terms before issuing purchase orders.\n\nSolicit competitive quotes from qualified suppliers and compare vendor options based on cost, quality, availability, lead time, service, and reliability.\n\nNegotiate pricing, delivery, commercial terms, and service requirements with suppliers within established guidelines.\n\nResearch and identify new or alternative vendors to improve competition, availability, service levels, and overall value.\n\nLook beyond individual purchasing transactions to identify opportunities for cost savings, cost avoidance, supplier consolidation, and improved sourcing strategies.\n\nPartner with maintenance, operations, stores, plant management, accounting, and other internal customers to understand purchasing needs and priorities.\n\nCommunicate specifications, scopes of work, commercial terms and conditions, and applicable safety and environmental requirements to suppliers and service providers.\n\nMonitor open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers regarding acknowledgments, order status, availability, lead times, and delivery dates.\n\nExpedite purchases when necessary to support critical maintenance requirements and continuity of plant operations.\n\nResolve purchase order and supplier discrepancies involving pricing, quantities, specifications, delivery, invoicing, or other commercial issues.\n\nEvaluate supplier capabilities and performance and assist in addressing quality, service, delivery, and commercial concerns.\n\nDevelop and maintain effective working relationships with existing and prospective suppliers.\n\nMonitor changing market and supplier conditions that could impact cost, availability, lead times, or continuity of supply.\n\nProvide information to procurement, plant management, and internal customers to help control costs and identify savings opportunities.\n\nAssist with inventory management by working with maintenance, stores, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support appropriate inventory levels and material availability.\n\nMaintain accurate procurement records and documentation within PLEX and other applicable company systems.\n\nStay proficient in procurement systems, company information systems, and other applicable business applications.\n\nSupport the standardization and continuous improvement of procurement processes and achievement of procurement Key Performance Indicators within Gerdau Business System guidelines.\n\nQualifications Required:\nA Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, Economics, or a related field\n\nA minimum of three years of procurement/purchasing experience, preferably supporting indirect services and MRO within a manufacturing or industrial environment\n\nExperience creating, processing, and maintaining purchase orders within an ERP or purchasing system; PLEX experience is preferred\n\nExperience obtaining competitive quotes, comparing supplier options, and negotiating pricing, delivery, commercial terms, and service requirements\n\nStrong understanding of tactical purchasing practices, including purchase orders, expediting, supplier follow-up, and issue resolution\n\nAbility to research and evaluate vendors based on cost, quality, availability, lead time, service, and overall value\n\nAbility to identify alternative suppliers and recognize opportunities for cost savings and improved purchasing strategies\n\nStrong communication, negotiation, mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills\n\nAbility to manage multiple purchasing requests and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment\n\nAbility to work effectively both independently and as a member of a cross-functional team\n\nAbility to coordinate activities with procurement, plant management, operations, maintenance, stores, accounting, and suppliers\n\nHigh ethical standards, strong attention to detail, and a strong work ethic\n\nAbility to travel 10-20% of the time\n\nGerdau believes in equal employment opportunity related to all employees and applicants for employment.
