This role oversees monthly close activities, inventory accounting, financial analysis, internal controls, and staff development while partnering closely with the Mill Controller and plant leadership team.\nReporting Structure\nReports directly to the Mill Controller\nDirectly supervises four Accounting Clerks\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Accounting\nFive to ten years of progressive accounting experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably in a plant setting\nExperience managing accounting functions and staff\nProficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications\nStrong analytical, communication, and organizational skills\nKey Responsibilities\nAccounting Operations & Team Leadership\nSupervise and develop plant accounting staff\nEstablish and maintain procedures for account reconciliations and account analysis\nReview general ledger activity to ensure compliance with internal controls\nReview account reconciliations prepared by accounting staff\nOversee inventory accounting and inventory control processes\nManage the plant accounts payable function\nMonitor operating statistics such as production rates, yields, cost per ton, material usage, and labor hours\nProvide ongoing training, coaching, and development opportunities for accounting team members\nServe as a key resource for financial systems training and process improvement initiatives\nMonth-End Close & Financial Reporting\nLead and coordinate the monthly financial close process\nReview and approve general ledger entries\nMaintain and update standard accruals\nManage journal entry allocations\nAct as a liaison between plant operations, plant accounting, and corporate accounting during close activities\nMaintain fixed asset records and coordinate with corporate tax teams\nTrack and account for capital projects and construction-in-progress (CIP) activity\nEnsure timely capitalization and accurate reporting of capital expenditures\nPartner with engineering and operations teams to analyze capital spending and budget variances\nFinancial Analysis & Plant Support\nMaintain accurate and timely accounting records and reporting\nAssist in monthly cost reporting and production cost analysis\nSupport plant leadership with cost reduction initiatives and financial decision-making\nAssist in preparing annual budgets, business plans, and rolling forecasts\nSupport office administration, equipment purchases, vendor relationships, and related activities\nAssist in developing, documenting, and maintaining internal controls to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance\nEnvironmental, Health & Safety Commitment\nEmployees are expected to perform all responsibilities in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
