This hands-on role is critical to the success of our scrap processing and recycling operations and offers an opportunity to build valuable skills in equipment operation, material inspection, and scrap grading.\nIf you enjoy working outdoors, operating heavy equipment, and being part of a team that prioritizes safety, quality, and customer service, we'd like to hear from you.\nWhat You'll Do\nAs a Yard Operator, you will:\nFollow all Gerdau safety, environmental, and operational procedures.\nInspect incoming scrap materials to ensure they meet quality and environmental standards.\nIdentify and communicate scrap grades, deductions, and downgrades.\nScan all incoming materials for radiation and follow quarantine procedures when required.\nSafely operate loaders and material handling equipment to load and unload materials.\nEnsure outbound materials meet customer specifications and quality standards.\nPerform and document daily equipment inspections and routine equipment care.\nMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.\nProvide exceptional customer service to suppliers and customers.\nParticipate in daily safety meetings and activities.\nAdditional Responsibilities\nDepending on location and business needs, you may also:\nAssist with inventory counts.\nSupport equipment maintenance and repairs.\nOperate baling equipment.\nAssist with non-ferrous material processing, including copper, brass, and aluminum.\nSupport yard operations to improve safety, efficiency, and profitability.\nStage and move materials using a material handler.\nContribute ideas and solutions for continuous improvement.\nLocations with Rail Operations\nIn facilities with rail service, responsibilities may include:\nOperating yard locomotives.\nCoupling and uncoupling rail cars.\nActivating rail switches.\nSetting brakes and wheel blocks.\nMoving loaded and empty rail cars in accordance with operating procedures.\nWhat We're Looking For\nStrong commitment to safety.\nWillingness to learn scrap grading and yard operations.\nMechanical aptitude and ability to work with heavy equipment.\nTeam-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.\nCustomer-focused attitude.\nDesire to continuously develop skills and grow within Gerdau.\nQualifications\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent preferred.\nPrevious experience in scrap, recycling, industrial, construction, manufacturing, or heavy equipment operations is an asset but not required.\nAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.\nAbility to perform physically demanding work in an industrial environment.\nWhy Gerdau?\nAt Gerdau, safety comes first.
