The successful candidate will transport various liquid and solid hazardous wastes from various customer sites throughout south-central British Columbia.\nThis is a permanent full-time position. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday.\nSpecific Duties and Responsibilities\nOversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.\n\nFamiliarity and experience working with government documents such as manifests.\n\nPerform trip inspections on equipment operated and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.\n\nComply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, weights and dimensions.\n\nManeuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle and any special loading equipment are properly positioned.\n\nCheck vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.\n\nReport vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.\n\nCheck all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.\n\nMaintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.\n\nRecord and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests etc. by manual or electronic means.\n\nCommunicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written form.\n\nLoading and unloading of trucks.\n\nPerform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure.\n\nDeliver to product and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely manner.\n\nEnsure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up.\n\nProvide feedback to supervisors regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.\n\nTrain others when required.\n\nOther duties as required.\n\nRequirements\nValid Class 3 Drivers License with Air Brakes and a fairly clean commercial drivers abstract; Class 1 Drivers License would be an asset.\n\nMust be able to operate a manual transmission truck.\n\nPhysically fit with the ability to lift +50lbs and stand on cement for extended periods of time.\n\nAbility to perform moderately labour intensive and repetitious tasks.\n\nExcellent communication skills and the ability to complete meticulous paperwork forms.\n\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities\nBasic computer skills an asset.\n\nStrong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance.\n\nDemonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities.\n\nExceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.\n\nHigh level of personal integrity.\n\nStrong work ethic.\n\nProfessional/mature demeanor under stressful situations.\n\nAbility to work in a fast-paced environment.\n\nWill be required to work both indoors and outdoors.\n\nManual dexterity, ability to lift 50+ lbs.\n\nPlanning and organizational skills.\n\nAbility to analyze, identify and solve problems.\n\nAble to work independently and in a team environment.\n\nAbility to work overtime as required.\n\nWeekend work may be required.\n\nGFL Benefits\nCompetitive wages.\n\nRRSP company matching program.\n\nIndustry leading health, dental and vision benefits.\n\nPaid training and development opportunities.\n\nA supportive work environment that fosters professional growth and development.\n\nSalary Information: $36.78 per hour.\nWe thank you for your interest.
