Under general direction from the Operations Manager, the Plant Operator is responsible for day-to-day operations with respect to waste receiving, handling, processing and disposal.\nKey Responsibilities:\nReceive all client waste - both bulk and containerized\nTake samples from waste vehicles and containers for lab analysis\nLoad and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks, tankers, straight trucks and van trailers\nOperate plant machinery and assist with general maintenance\nAssisting in waste processing methods and processes\nAssist with preparing shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport\nGain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followed\nNotify the Supervisor/Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents or accidents that are identified\nDocument and report completion status of work assigned by the Supervisor/Manager\nComply with rules, procedures, safe work and hygiene practices, health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment\nMaintain work area to ensure to compliance with housekeeping, environmental and safety regulations\nKnowledge, Skills and Competencies:\nPrevious hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset\nPrevious experience operating air diaphragm pumps and bulk liquid transfer systems is an asset\nPropane forklift experience/certification is an asset\nWilling to work overtime, alternate shifts and weekends\nMust be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment\nMust be safety conscious and detail oriented\nMust be comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment in all weather conditions\nAbility to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision\nAbility to lift upwards of 50 lbs.\nEmergency response availability including evenings and weekends\nWho we are:\nGFL Environmental is the only major diversified environmental services company in North America; operating across Canada and the United States; offering services in solid waste management, liquid waste management, and infrastructure development.\nRecognized by our signature fleet of bright green trucks and equipment, we offer a wide range of environmental and industrial services to businesses, communities, and households, providing a consolidated and sophisticated approach to meeting our customers’ needs.\nGFL Benefits:\nMedical and Dental Coverage Our industry leading benefits package\nRRSP Matching: We support your future goals by matching your RRSP contributions\nAn environment to encourage professional growth and development\nBe a part of the Full-Cycle Project initiative - a way to give back to the community\nWe thank you for your interest.
