The role will initially focus on engineering hygiene improvements, helping reduce technical complexity, improve maintainability, and establish stronger engineering practices. Beyond the initial stabilization and clean-up phase, the individual will play a key role in shaping the target architecture and guiding a phased modernization journey. This position requires a strong combination of technical leadership, architectural thinking, stakeholder management, and hands-on engineering experience\nKey Responsibilities\nEngineering Excellence & Platform Improvement\nLead engineering hygiene and code quality improvement initiatives\n\nAssess and reduce technical debt across the application landscape\n\nDefine and implement improvements to:\n\nEngineering standards and practices\n\nBranching and version control strategy\n\nRelease management processes\n\nDevelopment lifecycle governance\n\nQuality assurance and testing practices\n\nIdentify and prioritize quick wins that deliver immediate business and engineering value\n\nModernization Strategy & Architecture\nContribute to the definition of target architecture and modernization roadmap\n\nAssess application landscape, dependencies, integrations, and business-critical workflows\n\nRecommend modernization approaches and implementation sequencing\n\nBalance technical improvements with business priorities and operational constraints\n\nSupport phased transformation planning and execution\n\nStakeholder Engagement & Advisory\nAct as a trusted advisor to both technology and business stakeholders\n\nFacilitate architecture reviews and decision-making sessions\n\nCommunicate technical findings in clear business language\n\nChallenge assumptions and provide pragmatic recommendations\n\nBuild alignment across engineering, architecture, product, and business teams\n\nTechnical Leadership\nProvide technical direction and governance to delivery teams \nMentor engineers and promote engineering best practices \nDrive consistency, maintainability, and long-term sustainability \nEnsure recommendations are actionable and aligned with strategic objectives\nRequired Experience\n10+ years of software engineering experience \nProven track record leading modernization or transformation initiatives for large enterprise applications \nStrong software architecture and solution design expertise \nExperience improving engineering practices within complex environments \nDemonstrated success reducing technical debt and improving platform maintainability \nBonus Experience\nExperience working within banking, financial services, fintech, insurance, or other regulated industries \nTechnical Expertise\nThe ideal candidate should have strong experience across multiple areas of the modern enterprise application landscape:\nDeep expertise in Java-based enterprise applications and distributed systems \nStrong understanding of modern application architectures and integration patterns \nExperience modernizing legacy platforms and reducing technical debt \nStrong database and data modelling knowledge, ideally within Oracle environments \nExperience with messaging and event-driven architectures \nFamiliarity with modern frontend frameworks and API-driven architectures \nGood understanding of application security, authentication and identity management \nHands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerized platforms and cloud-native practices \nExperience defining engineering standards, release strategies and development governance \nFamiliarity with AI-assisted software engineering tools and modern developer productivity practices is a strong advantage \nStakeholder & Leadership Skills\nThe successful candidate must be comfortable operating at both strategic and delivery levels.
