At GFT, we’re looking for a Senior Noise to join our Environmental team in our Boston, MA office.

GFT’s Environmental team delivers integrated planning, permitting, and compliance solutions that support infrastructure development across North America. Our team guides clients through Environmental Assessments and permitting processes, ecological and regulatory assessments, and environmental remediation efforts on projects that span transportation, power, water, and facilities markets. From environmental approvals to complex planning solutions, GFT helps clients protect resources, manage risk, and meet regulatory requirements with confidence.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As a Senior Noise Analyst, you will lead complex noise and vibration studies, conduct regulatory compliance assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and provide technical guidance throughout the planning, environmental review, design, construction, and operational phases of projects. You will work with environmental planners, engineers, architects, urban designers, transportation professionals, and construction specialists to evaluate acoustic impacts and develop practical, cost-effective mitigation solutions. This is an opportunity to serve as a senior technical resource, mentor staff, support clients, and bring bold ideas to life and foster collaboration across a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the :

  • Manage complex environmental noise and vibration assessments for transportation, industrial, and energy projects.
  • Develop project-specific methodologies and analytical approaches consistent with regulatory requirements, agency guidance documents, environmental noise requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and oversee ambient noise and vibration field measurement programs; validate acoustic models using field-collected data; analyze existing and future conditions; and develop noise contour maps, receptor inventories, and mitigation analyses.
  • Evaluate operational, construction, cumulative, and indirect noise effects where required, and develop mitigation measures including noise barriers, berms, walls.
  • Prepare technical reports, environmental impact assessments, regulatory submissions, and supporting documentation in compliance with NEPA, State and Federal requirements, and respond to agency comments and technical review requests.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients and participate in technical meetings, workshops, stakeholder consultations, public engagement activities, and presentations to clients, regulatory agencies, project teams, and community stakeholders.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control for analyses prepared by more junior staff, mentor team members, lead technical problem-solving efforts, and support proposal preparation, technical approaches, and cost estimates for acoustics-related pursuits.

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Environmental Science, Geography, GIS, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of years of progressively responsible experience in environmental noise and vibration analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, coordinating technical staff and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in a project management role with responsibility for managing project scope, schedule, budget, and overall delivery performance. Proven ability to perform project controls functions, including project planning and forecasting, budget tracking, resource management, invoicing, revenue recognition, cost monitoring, and financial reporting. Experience developing and negotiating change orders, contract modifications, and scope amendments, as well as identifying and mitigating project risks.
  • Ability to manage client expectations, ensure compliance with contractual requirements, and deliver projects that meet quality objectives.
  • Experience working with federal, state, or local government agencies.
  • Advanced proficiency with FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM) Version 2.5 and experience with FHWA Traffic Noise Model versions 3.0 or later.
  • Experience using FHWA’s Database for Air Quality and Noise Analysis tool and experience using Python, R, and MATLAB.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with familiarity in environmental data analysis, statistical interpretation, and spatial analysis tools.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, technical writing and report preparation skills, verbal communication and presentation skills, leadership and mentoring capabilities, client service and relationship-building skills, and the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a combination of office, remote, and field environments, including periodic outdoor noise and vibration monitoring in transportation corridors, industrial facilities, and construction sites.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, client offices, and public meetings as required and perform field work in varying weather and site conditions.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Master’s degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • INCE Board Certified Noise Control Engineer certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensure, where applicable.
  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or equivalent designation.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $103,000 - $148,000; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
