You'll be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and calibration of lab instruments, meticulous record-keeping, and ensuring all tests are performed to the highest standards. This role offers a chance to make a significant impact while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.\nThis position operates on a 12-hour rotating 5/5/4 shift schedule, alternating between day and night shifts.\nWhat You Will Do\nPerforms laboratory testing on petroleum samples inclusive of Sulfur, Vapor Pressure, Viscosity, Gas Chromatography, Total Acid Number, Hydrogen Sulfide and other tests as assigned.\nCollects samples as required in various sample container sizes from trucks, pipeline, DRU, frac plant and QC buildings.\nUse of company vehicle to transport samples around the terminal. Fuel up the lab assigned company vehicle when required.\nMaintains and verifies calibration of lab instruments as required.\nDevelops standard operating procedures for new lab instrumentation and ensure existing standard operating practices are accurate and up to date.\nAdministrative work including data review and entry into LIMS and customer tickets and engagement with customers via telephone, email and radio.\nMaintains safe work procedures and a healthy lab environment in compliance with Gibson Safety and Environmental policies.\nAssists in training less experienced lab staff.\nCommunicates to customers by addressing their concerns about test results, sampling procedures or standard operating practices.\nKeeps up to date with changes to industry accepted testing standards.\nRecommends appropriate replacement and advises on options for new equipment when necessary.\nPerforms basic house keeping duties.\nCommunicates actions taken to immediate supervisor / manager.\nCommunicates and follows Company Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.\nRepresents the department and the Company in a professional manner.\nReports all spills, emergencies and injuries to Measurement Supervisor or Team Leader.\nInforms Measurement Supervisor or Team Leader of any lab issues affecting lab operations.\nDemonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures. \nMay perform other duties as assigned. \nWhat You Bring to the Role\nChemical Technology Diploma - or equivalent Education.\nMinimum of 2 years experience in a petroleum testing laboratory. \nKnowledgeable in using Microsoft office applications. Advanced competency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word.\nValid Class 5 Driver’s License.\nBe familiar with applicable testing standards (API, ASTM, etc.) and manufacturers recommended procedures regarding operation, calibration and maintenance of instruments.\nLiquid Gas Chromatography knowledge is an asset.\nAdvanced understanding of hydrocarbon chemistry is an asset.\nTo perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and timely manner.\nWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements\nThe majority of the work is performed in a lab environment.\nThis position requires physical mobility and able to perform duties in a confined space and/or in the vicinity of dangerous goods.\nThis position requires employees to wear appropriate PPE as required by the company’s safety policies and as required for weather conditions. \nMust be able to walk on uneven surfaces as well as climb ladders and stairs.\nStanding and/or sitting for long periods.\nOccasional bending and twisting is required as is prolonged neck positioning.\nSome crouching, squatting, kneeling.\nFrequent to constant upper extremity movements (elbows, forearm, wrist, handgrip).\nLifting up to 40lbs.\nPushing up to 30lbs and carrying up to 40lbs.\nThis job is subject to background checks as outlined in Gibson Energy’s Background Checks policy.
