This role provides deep technical expertise, sets engineering standards, and leads complex initiatives across teams without direct people leadership responsibilities.\nWe are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to partner closely with product, design, and engineering leadership to solve ambiguous problems and drive long-term technical strategy. This position has significant influence on system architecture, reliability, and developer effectiveness, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, operational excellence, and compliance standards.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesigns and implements scalable, reliable, and secure software systems for core Gifthealth platforms\nLeads technical architecture decisions and drive long-term platform evolution\nProvides technical leadership, code reviews, and mentorship to engineers across teams\nCollaborates with Product, Design, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions\nIdentifies and reduces technical debt; improve system performance, observability, and reliability\nEstablishes and upholds engineering best practices, standards, and documentation\nQualifications\n Education: \nBachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field OR equivalent professional experience (Required)\nAdvanced degree in Computer Science or related technical field (Preferred)\nLicensure/Certification: None\n Experience: \n8+ years of professional software engineering experience (Required)\nDemonstrated experience designing and operating production-grade systems at scale (Required)\nExperience operating in high-growth or regulated environments (Preferred)\nPrior experience functioning as a staff or principal-level engineer (Preferred)\n Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: \nKnowledge of modern software architecture patterns (modularity, event-driven systems, APIs); Cloud-native systems (AWS, GCP, or Azure); and data modeling, distributed systems, and system reliability principles (Required)\nKnowledge of healthcare, pharmacy, or regulated industry environments (HIPAA); Domain-driven design and platform engineering concepts (Preferred)\nAdvanced proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Ruby, Elixir, Python, Java, Go, or Node.js) (Required)\nDesigning and reviewing complex systems and APIs skills (Required)\nDebugging and resolving production issues in distributed systems skills (Required)\nFrontend or mobile experience (Hotwire, React, TypeScript, etc.) skills (Preferred)\nInfrastructure-as-code and CI/CD tooling skills (Preferred)\nAbility to independently lead complex, ambiguous technical initiatives (Required)\nAbility to influence technical direction across teams without formal authority (Required)\nAbility to translate business strategy into scalable technical solutions (Preferred)\nWork Environment\nLocation: Remote\nSchedule: Daytime hours Monday through Friday with night and weekend hours on occasion as determined by the needs of the business.\nRegular meetings with internal Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Designers, Senior and Staff Engineers, and Infrastructure/Security teams.
