This industry is about to explode, and you'll be in the room where it's already happening.\nWhat you'll do\nGiga Energy designs and manufactures switchboards, transformers, and modular data center power infrastructure for the AI and mission-critical data center market. We're building our field service function from the ground up to support commissioning, startup, and post-installation service for our transformer product line as it scales into utility, industrial, and hyperscale data center deployments.\nAs a Field Service Engineer - Transformers, you'll be the technical face of Giga Energy at customer sites - commissioning new units, troubleshooting in-service equipment, and building the field service playbook as one of our first dedicated transformer FSEs.\nWhere you'll work\nThis role is a a heavy travel position. This candidate must be open to 50-70% travel expectations.\nBase salary + travel per diem, competitive with market (benchmarked against ABB/Siemens/Powell field service compensation bands)\nOn-call rotation for emergency customer support\nCompany vehicle or travel allowance, per diem, and standard field service equipment provided\nResponsibilities\nPerform on-site installation oversight, startup, and commissioning of power and distribution transformers (oil-filled and dry-type) at customer facilities\nConduct acceptance testing per IEEE/IEC/NEMA and customer specifications prior to energization\nSupport equipment energization planning, outage coordination, and site readiness reviews with customers, EPCs, and project managers\nInterpret and work from single-line diagrams, winding/vector diagrams, control schematics, and equipment nameplate data\nPerform Turns Ratio (TTR) testing, winding resistance, insulation resistance (IR/PI), power factor/dissipation factor, and SFRA testing\nConduct Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) sampling and interpret oil analysis results to assess transformer health\nPerform relay and protection testing where transformers interface with protective schemes\nDiagnose and troubleshoot On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC/LTC) mechanisms, cooling systems, and control/monitoring equipment\nDocument all test results and produce clear, customer-ready technical reports\nExecute troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, repair, and end-of-life/retrofit services on transformers in the field\nProactively identify potential equipment failures and recommend corrective or preventive actions to customers\nSupport warranty investigations, root cause analysis, and field failure reporting back to Engineering and Quality\nRespond to emergency service calls, including after-hours and weekend support as required\nServe as the primary on-site technical representative for Giga Energy, building and maintaining strong customer relationships\nCommunicate job status, technical findings, and recommendations clearly to customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders\nPrepare material lists, technical quotations, and scopes of work for follow-on service opportunities\nCoordinate with site engineers, contractors, and internal Engineering/Quality teams during outages and installs\nComply fully with OSHA, NFPA 70E (arc flash/electrical safety), and Giga Energy EHS policies on every site visit\nMaintain required certifications (e.g., NETA, OSHA 10/30, first aid/CPR) and complete ongoing safety training\nEnsure all high-voltage work follows lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work procedures\nMaintain timely, accurate service reports, timesheets, expense reports, and job status updates\nFeed field observations (failure modes, install issues, design feedback) into Giga's NCR/SCAR and continuous improvement processes\nRequirements \nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field - OR equivalent experience (military electrical/electronics training, associate degree + relevant field experience)\n2+ years of hands-on field experience with power/distribution transformers, switchgear, or related power delivery equipment (entry-level candidates with strong internships/training programs will be considered)\nWorking knowledge of transformer testing: TTR, insulation resistance, DGA/oil analysis, power factor testing\nAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and winding/vector diagrams\nWillingness and ability to travel 50-75%, including domestic and potentially international sites\nValid driver's license; ability to maintain/obtain a passport\nPhysical ability to lift/move equipment components and work in industrial field environments (heights, confined spaces, outdoor conditions)\nBonus Points\nExperience with OEM transformer platforms (ABB, Siemens, GE, Hitachi Energy, Powell, ERMCO) or equivalent\nFamiliarity with On-Load Tap Changers (OLTC), cooling systems (ONAN/ONAF/OFAF), and bushings\nNETA certification or working toward NETA Level II/III\nExperience with protective relay testing and interpretation\nData center or mission-critical facility experience\nPrior experience at a transformer OEM, utility, or independent testing/service organization\nHow We Work\nWe value people who take ownership, raise risks early, communicate directly, and follow through.
