Join Gilead and help create possible, together.\nJob Description\nThe Director, Advanced Capabilities leads the Advanced Capabilities function within Commercial Learning & Development (CL+D), overseeing strategy, design, implementation, and continuous improvement. \nThe role strengthens field capabilities to support business objectives and customer engagement, partnering with Sales Leadership, Regional Trainers, Marketing, Commercial Operations, Medical Affairs, and other cross-functional stakeholders.\nThe Director oversees capability strategy, governance, common models across U.S. Commercial, coordination with global counterparts, portfolio prioritization, and resource allocation. Key initiatives include:\nNew-to-Role Learning Journey Professional Skills (INTEGRATE and ELEVATE)\nMatrix Collaboration / LEAD Account Framework / Ways of Working\nCommunication Impact and Influence Competency / Advanced Competitive Selling (ACS) Neuroscience of Communication\nStrategic Approach Competency/ Portfolio Selling\nBusiness Analytics Competency /Next Best Action\nCopilot and AI capabilities\nLearning solutions align with Gilead's commercial strategy, cross-functional competencies, and evolving business needs. Capability standards and scalable methods support sustained performance in business acumen, strategic account management, relationship building, communication, and field execution.\nThis role is eligible for remote work.\nKey Responsibilities:\nGovernance and development of common, scalable models that can be used across different business units and geographies.\nLead cross-functional governance teams and engage senior stakeholders to align priorities, secure resources, and drive adoption of capability initiatives.\nDevelop learning pathways, resources, and field activities that build business acumen, strategic relationships, account management, communication, and AI and Copilot skills, including prompting, agents, and automation.\nDesign reinforcement activities, coaching resources, and performance support tools that sustain learning and its application on the job.\nEstablish success metrics, evaluation methods, and executive reporting to assess capability adoption, organizational effectiveness, business outcomes, and return on investment.\nPartner with Learning Operations and Learning Technology to support program administration, reporting, learner communications, and execution.\nEvaluate and incorporate emerging technologies, digital learning solutions, and AI-enabled tools to improve capability development and field effectiveness.\nSkills and Experience:\nDemonstrated success with governance in L&D common and enterprise thinking.\nAbility to translate commercial strategy, business priorities, and stakeholder needs into effective learning and capability development solutions.\nStrong project management skills, including planning, prioritization, stakeholder management, objective setting, meeting facilitation, and delivery of complex instructional design projects.\nExperience conducting stakeholder interviews and needs assessments, identifying performance gaps, and selecting appropriate learning design, development, and implementation approaches.\nKnowledge of emerging learning technologies, digital platforms, and AI-enabled solutions, with the ability to apply research, data analysis, measurement, and evaluation methods.\nSound judgment in balancing immediate business needs with long-term priorities, a growth mindset, and a collaborative approach to continuous improvement.\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree and twelve years of experience\nOR\nMaster’s degree or MBA and ten years of experience\nOR\nPh.D. with 8 years of relevant experience\nPreferred Qualifications:\nTwo years of successful management experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.\nTwo years of experience in commercial training or health education, plus experience leading training and project management.\nIn-depth knowledge of and experience in the specialty therapeutics market.\nPeople Leader Accountabilities:\nCreate Inclusion - knowing the business value of diverse teams, modeling inclusion, and embedding the value of diversity in the way they manage their teams. \nDevelop Talent - understand the skills, experience, aspirations and potential of their employees and coach them on current performance and future potential. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
