Job Description

Intern - Kite Development - Global Patient Safety

As a Gilead intern you will contribute to high-impact meaningful projects that will not only further advance our company’s mission but will allow you to gain real world experience at one of the most innovative organizations in the world. You will also have opportunities to participate in special events including professional development and leadership presentations, social/network building activities and local community volunteer programs.

We are seeking a highly motivated Pharmacovigilance (PV) & Drug Safety Intern to join our Safety organization for a summer internship. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to pharmacovigilance and patient safety within a dynamic biopharmaceutical environment, with a particular focus on, safety surveillance, signal detection, aggregate safety assessment, and risk management.

The intern will work closely with experienced safety physicians, safety scientists, and PV professionals and cross functional teams and will contribute to projects that support the safe and effective development and lifecycle management of innovative CART therapies.

This is an ideal opportunity for a graduate student or advanced undergraduate student interested in pharmacovigilance, drug safety, clinical development, regulatory science, epidemiology, or pharmaceutical medicine.

Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the Safety organization in conducting literature surveillance and targeted safety information reviews.

  • Assist with aggregate safety data analyses and preparation of safety summaries, tables, and presentations.

  • Support signal detection and signal evaluation activities under the guidance of experienced safety scientists.

  • Assist with review and organization of safety information from clinical trials and post-marketing sources.

  • Support preparation and maintenance of pharmacovigilance deliverables, including DSURs, development safety summaries, safety review materials, and risk management documentation.

  • Conduct targeted research on emerging safety topics, mechanisms of toxicity, and relevant medical literature.

  • Assist with benefit-risk assessment projects and preparation of materials for safety governance forums.

  • Support the development of safety surveillance strategies for novel and advanced therapies.

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings with Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, and other functions to understand how patient safety is integrated into drug development.

  • Develop presentations and concise written summaries communicating safety findings to scientific and cross-functional audiences.

  • Contribute to a defined summer AI project that addresses a meaningful pharmacovigilance or drug safety question and present findings to the Safety organization at the conclusion of the internship.

  • Showcase your work with a final presentation (PPT) near the conclusion of your internship

Potential Summer Project Areas

Depending on business priorities and the intern's interests, projects may include:

  • Signal detection methodologies and emerging approaches to safety surveillance

  • Aggregate safety data review and visualization

  • Safety surveillance for cell and gene therapies / CAR-T therapies

  • Long-term safety monitoring of advanced therapies

  • Identification and assessment of important identified and potential risks

  • Benefit-risk assessment methodologies

  • Risk minimization and risk management strategies

  • Epidemiology and real-world safety surveillance

  • Safety data trends and visualization

  • Regulatory expectations for pharmacovigilance of novel modalities

  • Development of innovative approaches to pharmacovigilance and safety science

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the internship.

  • Must be enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA, JD or PhD program at a nationally accredited U.S. college or university, with continued full-time enrollment required in the Fall semester following the internship.

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) or as a graduate/doctoral student.

  • Must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 at the time of application and hire (official transcripts will be requested).

  • Must be independently authorized to work in the United States now and in the future (current or future work authorization must not require school or employer sponsorship).

  • Must be able to commit to a full-time internship lasting 10-12 consecutive weeks between May and August.

  • Must be willing and able to work at the designated site for the duration of the internship (relocation may be required). All internships are hybrid; fully remote roles are not offered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred degree level: Undergraduate, Graduate, MPH, PhD, JD, or PharmD

  • Preferred field of study: Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Health, Epidemiology, Biology, Medicine, Biostatistics, Regulatory Science, or a related scientific discipline

  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office (MS Office) tools, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Strongproblem-solvingskills, with the ability toidentifyissues and proactively seek solutions

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity, including the ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds

  • Highly organized,detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities in afast-pacedenvironment with short timelines

The expected hourly range for this position is $19.00 - $55.00.

Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including education level and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary.

Benefits include paid company holidays, sick time, and housing stipends for eligible employees.
