Join Kite and help create more tomorrows.\nJob Description\nThe Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) Operations & Automation Technology (OAT) Manager / Senior Manager serves as a technical leader supporting clinical cell therapy manufacturing operations. This role partners with Manufacturing, Facilities & Engineering, Quality, Validation, IT, Process Development, and Network MSAT to ensure reliable operation of manufacturing equipment, automation platforms, computerized systems, and data-integrity compliant processes.\nThe position provides technical support for GMP manufacturing, technology transfers, new product introductions, equipment lifecycle management, automation initiatives, deviation investigations, change controls, and continuous improvement projects. The engineer acts as a key interface between manufacturing operations and technology functions to drive operational excellence, scalability, and innovation.\nKey Responsibilities\nEquipment and Automation Support\nProvide technical support for GMP manufacturing equipment and automation systems.\n\nLead or support equipment troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and implementation of corrective actions.\n\nSupport equipment upgrades, software updates, and introduction of new technologies.\n\nCoordinate with Facilities & Engineering, Validation, IT, and vendors to maintain system reliability.\n\nServe as technical SME for assigned manufacturing systems and automation platforms.\n\nTechnology Transfer and New Product Introduction\nSupport clinical manufacturing technology transfers and process introductions.\n\nAssess equipment readiness, automation requirements, and system impacts associated with new programs.\n\nPartner with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of manufacturing processes.\n\nDevelop and execute equipment-related readiness plans for new products and process changes.\n\nManufacturing Operations Support\nProvide technical support during manufacturing campaigns.\n\nParticipate in lot monitoring, escalation management, and rapid issue resolution.\n\nEvaluate process and equipment performance trends and identify improvement opportunities.\n\nSupport manufacturing readiness activities, batch execution success, and operational reliability.\n\nQuality Systems and Compliance\nAuthor and review deviations, CAPAs, change controls, risk assessments, and technical reports.\n\nSupport impact assessments associated with equipment, automation, and process changes.\n\nEnsure activities comply with GMP, data integrity, and regulatory requirements.\n\nSupport audit and inspection readiness activities.\n\nContinuous Improvement and Data Analytics\nDrive equipment and automation improvements that increase process robustness and operational efficiency.\n\nImplement data collection, trending, monitoring, and visualization tools to improve manufacturing performance.\n\nEvaluate emerging technologies, digital tools, AI solutions, and automation opportunities for clinical manufacturing.\n\nSupport development of dashboards and systems that improve operational visibility and decision making.\n\nSuccess Measures\nReliable support of manufacturing operations with minimal equipment-related disruptions.\n\nTimely execution of equipment upgrades and automation deployments.\n\nSuccessful support of tech transfers and new product introductions.\n\nHigh-quality investigation, CAPA, and change-control execution.\n\nImplementation of technology and process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and scalability.\n\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor's Degree and Eight Years' Experience\nOR\nMasters' Degree and Six Years' Experience\nOR\nPhD / PharmD\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in facilities, engineering in a biotech/pharma industry\n\nDegree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Computer Science, or related field.\n\nExperience supporting GMP manufacturing operations, automation systems, or process engineering.\n\nKnowledge of biologics, cell therapy, gene therapy, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.\n\nExperience with investigations, change controls, and quality systems.\n\nStrong technical writing and cross-functional collaboration skills.\n\n10+ years of relevant experience supporting cell therapy manufacturing operations.\n\nExperience with MES, EBR, SCADA, PLC, data historians (OSI PI, Chronicle, CellFactory), or manufacturing automation systems.\n\nKnowledge of qualification and validation requirements.\n\nExperience leading technology transfers or equipment implementation projects.\n\nFamiliarity with computerized system lifecycle management and data integrity requirements.\n\nProficiency in application of AI-based solutions and data analytics in manufacturing environments.\n\nExperience leading direct reports and developing and mentoring staff\n\nPeople Leader Accountabilities:\nCreate Inclusion - knowing the business value of diverse teams, modeling inclusion, and embedding the value of diversity in the way they manage their teams.\n\nDevelop Talent - understand the skills, experience, aspirations and potential of their employees and coach them on current performance and future potential. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
