GITAI develops robotic systems to perform physical tasks aboard spacecraft, space stations and on lunar and orbital infrastructure. The company designs and manufactures robotic manipulators, free-flying robots and autonomous hardware and software to reduce the cost and risk of human work in space. Its customers include space agencies, commercial satellite operators and companies building in-space and lunar infrastructure.

Who We Are

GITAI is a vertically integrated space and defense company building the next generation of hardware for low-Earth-orbit missions.

At our core is the space robotics technology that has defined GITAI from the beginning. A small, highly capable engineering team applies that foundation across satellite buses, in-orbit servicing robotics, and mission hardware for applications such as Earth observation. Today, a major focus of our work is supporting U.S. national security missions, particularly through proliferated LEO satellite constellations and other next-generation space systems.

We design, build, integrate, and test much of our hardware in-house. Electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, integration, and test teams work closely together, allowing a small team to own complete systems rather than isolated components. This vertical integration helps us move quickly, learn directly from hardware, and shorten the path from architecture to a working system.

We are still early. The systems, the company, and the market are all being built at the same time. Requirements change, technical problems are often ambiguous, and many answers do not yet exist. We are looking for exceptional engineers and operators who want broad ownership, can work across disciplines, and are willing to stay close to the hardware until the mission succeeds.

Your Mission

You are earning, or have earned, an engineering degree. That does not mean you have to become an engineer. At a startup, there are other ways to use technical judgment.

A person who understands engineering and can identify exceptional people can have leverage far beyond their own individual output. Finding one great engineer can change the trajectory of a team. Building that judgment across dozens of hires can change the company. This role is for people who understand technical work, have good instincts about people, and are curious about taking a less conventional path. You will review real engineering work, talk with candidates, work closely with GITAI’s engineers, and learn to judge who actually built the work, who has real technical depth, and who can raise the level of the team. You do not need recruiting experience. You do need an engineering mind, good judgment of people, and the willingness to take a path that may look different from the one you expected when you started your degree.

What You’ll Drive

  • Review engineering resumes, portfolios, CAD, PCB work, hardware photos, and test results, and decide who is worth advancing.
  • Understand what a candidate actually designed, built, tested, and owned.
  • Assess technical depth, ownership, motivation, and likely fit for GITAI.
  • Source strong engineering talent and manage candidates through the recruiting process.
  • Work closely with GITAI engineers, learn from hiring outcomes, and sharpen your own judgment over time.

The goal is to become someone who can look at an engineering candidate and form a strong, independent view quickly.

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently in the final year of, or graduated from, a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong technical foundation and genuine interest in hardware engineering.
  • Good instincts about people. You can tell who understands their work, who took real ownership, and who may be better or worse than they first appear.
  • High ownership, speed, and willingness to learn by doing.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort talking with engineers and candidates.
  • Interest in using your engineering background to build a career in technical recruiting.

Prior recruiting experience is not required.

We are looking for someone with an engineering mind and strong judgment of people.

Location and Position Type

  • Location: Torrance, California
  • Position Type: Internship, hourly, non-exempt
  • This is an onsite role based at GITAI’s Torrance office. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
  • Occasional travel may be required for university recruiting events and other talent outreach.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $22-$28 per hour, depending on engineering background, technical experience, and demonstrated judgment.

GITAI does not accept unsolicited resumes from staffing or recruiting agencies. We work only with recruiting partners that have been specifically engaged by GITAI. No fees will be paid for resumes submitted without a prior agreement.
