The role is tasked to ensure a safe workplace through prevention methods and the achievement of our strategic objectives (KPI’s, etc.)\n*This is a fully on-site position*\nKey Responsibilities: \nAct as a technical resource for stakeholders by encouraging action in accordance with legislation and best practices, educating and generating awareness of HSE initiatives, and supporting continual development of the work environment and practices\nEnsure the monitoring, creation, implementation, and enforcement of HSE policies and procedures\nRevising and creating policies to stay current with department/company changes, legislation and related internal controls\nMaintain strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written, or verbally discussed within the HSE department\nResponsible to assist in the development, maintenance and implementation of site HSE Programs\nAssist in implementing forward thinking HSE efforts (risk-based and compliance)\nRemain current with legislation and leading best practices ensuring HSE policies and training are compliant\nParticipate in discussions across the company to provide insight into current health and safety practices, as well as provide suggestions for areas of improvement\nSupport and participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committees, continuously developing both the committee and the work environment through ongoing support in monthly meetings and inspections, coordination of workplace improvement activities, and education/training\nIdentify training needs, co-ordinate, support, and conduct HSE training for sites\nMaintain a HSE training tracking sheet to ensure compliance and conduct formal safety orientations \nParticipate in and conduct training initiatives as per business need\nDevelop minutes and reports for documentation purposes\nTrain and coach in situational challenges in different site areas, while providing support and recommendations for risk elimination\nFacilitate work environment hazard analysis/resolution through identification and elimination of hazards, calling meetings to review data, and making recommendations for resolution\nContinuously improve the HSE program through analyzing metrics and data, determining risk, and creating/implementing policies & activities for positive change, including external networking to develop best practices\nFacilitate incident investigations, proper root cause analyses, and development of corrective actions with responsible stakeholders\nThe Recipe for Success: \nCompletion of a 4-year university degree in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety or related field\nMinimum of 3 years of HSE experience\nPrevious experience investigating incidents & accidents and conducting training in manufacturing environment\nWorking towards CRSP or CHSC designation\nExcellent leadership and critical thinking skills – capable of leading cross functional teams in issue resolution and showing good judgement to put plans into effect to resolve concerns\nStrong communication (written and verbal) skills to draft written correspondence\nExcellent influencing skills, with the ability to deal with conflict and crisis in a calm manner\nStrong interpersonal and organizational skills (ability to be highly structured/detailed)\nComfortable speaking in groups to present HSE training\nExcellent ability with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)\nMust stay current with legislation, regulations, theory, and case law related to Health & Safety and Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
