The Private Sector and Innovation Promotion (PSInno) programme supports growth-oriented enterprises in Ghana, with a particular focus on agro-processing, innovation and the digital economy.
Building on earlier initiatives in private-sector development and entrepreneurship, PSInno helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) strengthen their competitiveness, improve productivity and operate more sustainably.
The programme improves SMEs’ access to markets and finance, strengthens entrepreneurial and digital skills, and promotes innovative business models. By helping businesses capture new opportunities locally and internationally, PSInno contributes to business growth, stronger sector performance and expanded employment.
About the Internship
GIZ Ghana is seeking a motivated and curious Intern – Data Science to support the PSInno team in using data to inform programme implementation and innovation.

In this role, you will contribute to data research, preparation, analysis and visualisation. You will also support the development and validation of a digital twin pilot, gaining practical exposure to data-driven modelling, research and digital innovation within a development programme.
You will work closely with the PSInno team, contribute to real-world analytical assignments and help transform data into useful insights for programme decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Data Research and PreparationResearch and identify relevant public, programme and third-party datasets.
Assess datasets for completeness, consistency, quality and suitability for analysis.
Collect, clean, structure and combine datasets for use in the digital twin pilot and other analytical activities.
Identify data gaps, inconsistencies and quality issues and support appropriate solutions.
Maintain clear records of data sources and preparation processes.
Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, relationships, patterns and data gaps.
Support the development, testing and refinement of the digital twin model.
Assist with testing model assumptions, scenarios and potential use cases.
Support the validation of model outputs and document findings.
Apply appropriate quantitative methods to support programme research and analysis.
Develop clear charts, tables and visualisations that communicate analytical findings effectively.
Prepare presentations, dashboards and analytical summaries for internal and stakeholder use.
Translate data findings into concise and accessible insights for programme teams.
Support the preparation of data-driven materials for meetings, workshops and presentations.
Document data sources, methodologies, assumptions, analytical processes and findings.
Record lessons learned from the digital twin pilot and related analytical activities.
Support the preparation and organisation of technical and programme documentation.
Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities within the PSInno team.
Support the management and maintenance of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform for the PSInno project.
Assist with CRM data organisation, quality checks, updates and reporting.
Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to discussions on data, research and digital innovation.
Support other relevant data analysis, research and programme activities as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or another closely related quantitative discipline.
Demonstrated foundational knowledge of data analysis, statistics and quantitative methods.
Practical experience using at least one data analysis or programming tool, such as Python or R, gained through academic projects, internships, personal projects or similar experience.
Ability to source, clean, organise, structure and analyse datasets.
Good research skills, with the ability to identify, assess and work with information from different sources.
Basic knowledge of data visualisation and the ability to present analytical results clearly.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience in CRM platform customisation and management.
Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to handling data and documentation.
Familiarity with Ghana’s private-sector environment, SME landscape, innovation ecosystem or digital economy will be an advantage.
