If that sounds like you, welcome to Secure System Engineering; the intersection of Systems, Software, and Safety Engineering.\nThe Embedded Product Cybersecurity Engineering team is seeking a Secure System Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. Our shared services team supports product development across the company wherever a customer has a security requirement, or when a system will be exposed to cyber threats through connectivity or operational use over public networks. Members of our team help develop cyber-resilient systems by supporting design and implementation teams to ensure a Secure System Development Lifecycle (SSDLC). We also develop tools and testing techniques for integration and verification, helping identify residual defects in design or implementation that could negatively impact the confidentiality, availability, or integrity of a system.\nThis is an onsite position. Located in Cedar Rapids.\nMust be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident \nAssist with developing and executing fuzzing and penetration tests to evaluate attack surface robustness. \nDevelop threat models and data flow diagrams to ensure data is properly isolated in transit and at rest. \nImplement mandatory access controls (MAC) through the development of SELinux policies. \nParticipate in code reviews to identify weaknesses in the implementation of security functions. \nConduct vulnerability assessments on proposed and in-service systems. \nDevelop and improve tools and scripts that enhance the overall efficacy of the Embedded Product Cybersecurity team. \nWhat You Will Learn:\nThe stages and practical application of the Collins Aerospace Secure Systems Development Lifecycle. \nThe day-to-day operations and responsibilities of a cybersecurity engineer. \nPractical experience in security testing methodologies, emphasizing fuzzing techniques. \nAdvanced skills in developing Python scripts and tools to automate and enhance cybersecurity workflows. \nThe end-to-end process of developing threat models and securing data through strict isolation and access controls. \nQualifications You Must Have:\nMust be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in an applicable discipline and actively ++enrolled through completion of the internship / co-op session.\nMust have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session. \nSolid understanding of fundamental cybersecurity principles. \nHigh proficiency in Python programming. \nFamiliarity with Linux operating systems. \nBasic knowledge of network protocols and secure architectures. \nQualifications We Prefer:\nStrong problem-solving and analytical skills with a demonstrated passion for the field. \nCompleted coursework or personal projects focusing on embedded systems security. \nExperience with embedded system integration and testing. \nUnderstanding of IP networking architectures and concepts. \nKnowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git). \nProficiency in the Microsoft Office Tool Suite.\nWhat We Offer:\nOur values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world.
