Job Description

Your New Role

We are looking for a diligent, organised and highly proactive Production Coordinator to support the smooth running of LBC’s newsroom operation. Working closely with the management team, you will be responsible for coordinating rotas, managing resources and supporting the successful onboarding of new team members.

You will help to ensure we have the right people in the right place at the right time, while responding quickly to changing editorial priorities and the demands of a live newsroom.

This is a role for someone who thrives on organisation, communication and problem-solving, and who isn’t fazed by an ever-changing news environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rota Management - Fill and manage rotas for the LBC production team, ensuring shifts are appropriately staffed and annual leave/sickness is covered accordingly.
  • Editorial Resourcing - Work closely with editorial managers and teams to ensure the newsroom is appropriately resourced across all shifts and shows, identifying gaps and finding solutions when things change.
  • Planning & Coordination - Support forward planning for staffing around major news events, elections and other key moments, helping coordinate staffing.
  • Reactive Problem Solving - Respond quickly to last-minute changes, keeping teams informed and finding practical solutions in a fast-moving news environment.
  • Talent & Performance Support - Build strong relationships with producers and editorial managers to develop a good understanding of individual strengths and performance. Help identify emerging talent and high performers, gather feedback from presenters, managers and teams, and support conversations around job and development opportunities.
  • Communication & Collaboration - Act as a key point of contact for production teams, ensuring information about rotas and staffing changes is communicated clearly and promptly.
  • Systems & Administration - Keep newsroom systems, rota information and relevant records accurate and up to date, helping to ensure the editorial operation runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Onboarding - Help onboard new team members, including organising all relevant training.

What You’ll Love About This Role

  • Think Big: You’ll be at the heart of LBC’s newsroom, helping support the production teams responsible for covering the biggest stories and conversations across Britain.
  • Own It: You’ll take responsibility for the management of LBC’s production rotas, making sure people are in the right place, and you’ll adapt quickly when plans change.
  • Keep It Simple: The success of the newsroom operation relies on clear communication, strong organisation and effective planning. You’ll help remove the logistical challenges so that teams can focus on producing great journalism.
  • Better Together: You’ll work closely with the production team, building strong relationships and becoming a trusted member of the newsroom team.

What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you’ll have:

  • Taken ownership of LBC’s production rota, ensuring it is accurate, carefully planned and clearly communicated.
  • Developed a strong understanding of the newsroom’s editorial output, workflows and resourcing requirements.
  • Built strong relationships with teams across the newsroom and become a trusted point of contact.
  • Helped the production team spend more time focused on delivering quality journalism by ensuring the operational and resourcing side of the newsroom runs smoothly.

What You’ll Need

  • Exceptional Organisation: You’re a highly organised and methodical individual, and you’re adept at managing nuanced rotas and competing priorities.
  • Newsroom Experience: Ideally, you have had experience working in a newsroom, production company or fast-paced media environment and have an understanding of the demands of production teams.
  • Resourceful & Reactive: You are very comfortable dealing with last-minute changes and unexpected challenges, and you’re focused on finding solutions quickly.
  • First-Class Communication: You can communicate clearly and confidently with people at all levels, and you ensure everyone has the information they need.
  • Attention to Detail: You have a real attention to detail and take pride in getting things right.
  • Collaborative Approach: You enjoy working as part of a team and getting the best out of people, with an understanding that your role is integral to the success of the newsroom operation.
  • Confidence With Rotas & Newsroom Systems: You’re comfortable working with scheduling, rota and admin systems and are quick to learn new tools and processes.
