With a global manufacturing footprint spanning three continents, GlobalFoundries makes possible the technologies and systems that transform industries and give customers the power to shape their markets. For more information, visit www.gf.com.\nSummary of Role\nGlobalFoundries is seeking a Device Modeling Engineer to develop, validate, and deploy predictive models for superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, and other emerging quantum-enabling devices. This role will translate fundamental device physics and measured electrical, optical, RF, and cryogenic behavior into simulation-ready models and libraries for Quantum Process Design Kits (QPDKs), heterogeneous integration, and customer design flows.\nEssential Responsibilities\nDevelop physics-based, behavioral, and compact models for superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, cryogenic passive, and other emerging non-CMOS devices.\nPlan and execute model-extraction and validation workflows using electrical, optical, RF/microwave, and cryogenic characterization data.\nCorrelate model behavior with measured device data, multiphysics simulation, and fundamental device physics; identify model limitations and drive corrective actions.\nDefine device structures, process parameters, and characterization vehicles required to extract and validate scalable models across geometry, temperature, frequency, optical wavelength, and operating conditions.\nImplement and qualify models within circuit, electromagnetic, and photonic simulation environments, including regression testing, convergence checks, documentation, and release readiness.\nDevelop model libraries and design collateral for QPDKs and heterogeneous integration platforms, including validated symbols, parameter sets, interfaces, and recommended design-use conditions.\nCollaborate with device, process, integration, characterization, packaging, PDK, EDA, and circuit-design teams to translate emerging technologies into usable design capabilities.\nCommunicate model assumptions, validation results, known limitations, and usage guidance through technical reports, application notes, and design reviews.\nOther Responsibilities\nPerform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.\nWork and collaborate on other projects and/or assignments as needed.\nRequired Qualifications\nEducation - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Photonics, Microelectronics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field.\nExperience - Minimum 5 years of experience in device physics, device modeling, multiphysics simulation, parameter extraction, or characterization of superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, RF/microwave, or other non-CMOS devices. Final experience requirements should be aligned with GF scoping guidelines for the approved job level.\nStrong foundation in semiconductor and solid-state device physics, with demonstrated ability to translate physical behavior into predictive simulation models.\nHands-on experience modeling at least one non-CMOS device class, such as Josephson-junction devices, SQUIDs, superconducting resonators or interconnects, waveguides, modulators, ring resonators, photodetectors, lasers, or cryogenic passive structures.\nExperience correlating models with measured electrical, optical, RF/microwave, or cryogenic data and defining validation criteria across relevant operating ranges.\nProficiency in scientific programming and data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools in a Linux/Unix environment.\nExperience with at least one relevant simulation environment, such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Ansys HFSS, Ansys Lumerical, Keysight ADS, Cadence Virtuoso/Spectre, or equivalent tools.\nAbility to communicate technical conclusions clearly to device, process, characterization, PDK, EDA, and design stakeholders.\nTravel - Up to 10%.\nFluency in English - written and verbal.\nPreferred Qualifications\nMaster's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Photonics, Microelectronics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field.\nExperience modeling superconducting devices and structures, including Josephson junctions, SQUIDs, kinetic inductance, superconducting resonators, transmission lines, or qubit-adjacent circuit elements.\nExperience modeling photonic or optoelectronic elements, including waveguides, couplers, modulators, ring resonators, photodetectors, lasers, or optical interconnects.\nExperience with equivalent-circuit, compact, behavioral, reduced-order, electromagnetic, or multiphysics model development for design enablement.\nKnowledge of cryogenic material behavior, RF/microwave effects, optical loss and dispersion, variability, parasitics, thermal effects, and model convergence challenges.\nExperience with Verilog-A, SPICE subcircuits, photonic compact-model libraries, or other model formats used in circuit and system simulation.\nExperience supporting QPDK, PDK, model-library, or design-kit releases, including model QA, regression testing, version control, and customer-facing documentation.\nFamiliarity with heterogeneous integration, advanced packaging, superconducting interposers, quantum interconnects, or co-simulation across electrical, optical, thermal, and electromagnetic domains.\nProject management skills, including the ability to innovate, execute solutions that matter, and navigate ambiguity.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills and strong planning and organizational skills.\nExpected Salary Range\n$98,000.00 - $176,000.00The exact Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience and location.\nThe role you are applying for may require you to obtain a US Department of Defense Security Clearance at some time during your employment. Acceptance of this role commits to applying for such if requested. Further, the applicant consents to being asked questions about their citizenship and background to assess the likelihood of obtaining a Security Clearance. The applicant also acknowledges that GlobalFoundries can only nominate and submit an application for a Security Clearance. The granting of a Security Clearance is at the sole discretion of the U.S. Government and the Department of Defense.\nIf you need a reasonable accommodation for any part of the employment process, please contact us by email at let us know the nature of your request and your contact information. Requests for accommodation will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please note that only inquiries concerning a request for reasonable accommodation will be responded to from this email address.\nAn offer with GlobalFoundries is conditioned upon the successful completion of pre-employment conditions, as applicable, and subject to applicable laws and regulations.\nGlobalFoundries is fully committed to equal opportunity in the workplace and believes that cultural diversity within the company enhances its business potential.
