Game Developer QA Engineer
Responsibilities:
Own validation strategy for Unreal Engine upgrades, including defining and enforcing quality gates (compile, editor, cook/package, runtime, integration).
Develop scalable CI/CD quality pipelines with clear pass/fail signals and reporting.
Validate shared engine systems and platform-level technology used across multiple teams.
Validate and maintain compatibility for internal and third-party plugins across engine versions and platforms.
Create and maintain cross-project test coverage, including golden path and reusable test suites.
Work with game teams to test and validate client backend integrations, including contract, resilience, and configuration handling.
Investigate and debug engine-level issues, including crashes, performance regressions, and integration failures.
Identify opportunities to improve diagnostics and observability, including logging, metrics, and automated regression detection.
Define and evangelize QA standards, best practices, and testing strategies across teams.
Partner with engineering and product teams to improve testability, reliability, and upgrade readiness.
Required Qualifications:
Strong experience with Unreal Engine (UE4 or UE5) in a technical QA or engineering role.
Proficiency in C++ and familiarity with Blueprints.
Experience building or maintaining test automation frameworks (Unreal Automation, Gauntlet, or similar).
Solid understanding of Unreal Engine architecture, including modules, build systems, and asset pipelines.
Experience with build, cook, package, and deployment pipelines.
Experience testing client-server systems and API integrations.
Familiarity with CI/CD systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and version control (Git or Perforce).
Strong debugging skills, including analyzing logs, call stacks, and crash dumps.
Knowledge of performance and memory profiling tools (e.g., Unreal Insights).
Strong foundation in test design, risk-based testing, and regression strategies.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working on central tech, platform, or engine teams supporting multiple products.
Familiarity with live-service architectures and large-scale backend integrations.
Experience with plugin/SDK certification and compatibility management.
Knowledge of multiplayer/networking systems and replication in Unreal.
Experience testing across multiple platforms, including console and mobile.
Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and tooling.
Strong ability to influence cross-team quality practices and drive organization-wide standards.
