Glydways designs an autonomous transit system of small vehicles running on narrow dedicated guideways. Its approach aims to deliver on demand transit at bus level cost. The company has agreements with several American transit authorities.

Who we are:

Glydways is reimagining what public transit can be. We believe that mobility is the gateway to opportunity-connecting people to housing, education, employment, commerce, and care. By making transportation more accessible, affordable, and sustainable, we empower communities to thrive and unlock economic and social prosperity.

Our mission is to revolutionize transit with a solution that delivers high capacity, exceptional user experiences, unmatched affordability, and minimal environmental impact.

The Glydways system is a groundbreaking network of carbon-neutral, interconnected transit pathways powered by standardized autonomous vehicles on dedicated roadways. Operating 24/7 with on-demand access, it offers personalized and efficient mobility-without the burden of heavy upfront infrastructure costs or ongoing taxpayer subsidies.

With Glydways, we’re building more than a transportation system; we’re creating a future where everyone, everywhere, has the freedom to move.

Meet the team:

The Applications Team, as a part of Software Platform, is instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining the technology that runs both in and for our robots and infrastructure.  This team, operating across the entire stack, serves our internal development team, clients and business partners, and interfaces directly with our customers helping to provide the best possible experiences and most impactful interactions.  As a part of the Applications Team, you will be writing high performance, cutting edge software that runs on premise, on robots, in the cloud, and in the hands of our users.

About the role

You'll own the Cabin experience: the in-vehicle interface every rider sees and interacts with from the moment they board to the moment they arrive. That includes the cabin display and controls, trip and status information, real-time voice/video connection to operators, the audio and ambient experience, and the pipeline that gets vehicle telemetry onto the screen. The cabin runs on constrained on-vehicle hardware with intermittent connectivity, and it has to be correct, fast, and calm under those conditions.

Our stack is TypeScript end to end: NestJS on Fastify on the server, HTMX-driven hypermedia UI on the client, with richer components where they earn their place. You'll partner daily with Design on the rider experience, with Compute Platform on the on-vehicle runtime, and with Network Platform on the vehicle-to-cloud path. You'll join as we prepare Cabin UX for our first public deployments, so this is a role with real ownership and a real ship date.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Own the design, implementation, and reliability of the Cabin UX application end to end: server-rendered UI with HTMX, the NestJS services behind it, and the cloud APIs it depends on.
  • Build rider-facing interfaces that behave correctly on embedded/tablet displays, in varying light and motion, and for riders of all abilities.
  • Integrate real-time communication (WebRTC) between the cabin and operators, including audio/video capture, signaling, and graceful degradation on poor links.
  • Integrate audio and ambient-experience systems (announcements, sound design, multi-channel playback) with the cabin application.
  • Consume vehicle telemetry and fleet state over WebSockets, SSE, or message buses and render it in real time; design for stale, missing, or out-of-order data.
  • Build for offline-first and low-connectivity operation: local state, queued actions, and safe defaults when the vehicle loses its uplink.
  • Deploy and update software on on-vehicle edge compute; work with Compute Platform on packaging, provisioning, and fleet rollout.
  • Test on real hardware and in hardware-in-the-loop and simulation environments; build the tooling that makes cabin work testable without a vehicle.
  • Design, build, and optimize schemas for relational and NoSQL stores that back cabin and operator workflows.
  • Work with Design to turn rider-experience concepts into shipped, measurable product, and feed field learnings back into the design process.
  • Support localization and accessibility across the cabin and adjacent rider-facing applications.
  • Help grow the team: document best practices, set sensible default stacks, and mentor engineers on rider-facing and on-vehicle work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert-level TypeScript across frontend and backend, with expert-level HTML5 and CSS.
  • Strong preference for hypermedia-driven architectures (HTMX, Hotwire, or similar) over heavy client-side frameworks, and good judgment about when a rich client (React, Vue, Svelte) is the right tool.
  • Production experience with Node.js backends, ideally NestJS on Fastify: modules, dependency injection, guards/interceptors, and server-side templating (Handlebars, EJS, or similar) driving HTMX partials.
  • Experience streaming server state to the UI using HTMX's SSE or WebSocket extensions, backed by Fastify/NestJS gateways or equivalent server-push infrastructure.
  • Hands-on WebRTC experience: media capture, signaling, TURN/STUN, and diagnosing quality issues on unreliable networks.
  • Experience with WebWorkers and event-driven or message-bus architectures (MQTT, gRPC streams, or similar).
  • Experience shipping web-native or embedded UI on Linux-based or tablet hardware (Electron, Capacitor, kiosk-mode browsers, or equivalent), including display, input, and power constraints.
  • Experience with Web Audio or native audio pipelines, or a demonstrated ability to pick it up quickly.
  • Experience defining schemas and working with one or more databases (Postgres, Redis, or similar).
  • Comfort with Linux, containers, and deploying to edge or on-vehicle compute; familiarity with Kubernetes and fleet rollout patterns is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, S3, DynamoDB, etc.).
  • Strong instinct for accessibility (WCAG), internationalization, and designing for public-facing, unattended use.
  • Comfortable working across hardware, network, and design teams, and debugging problems that don't respect team boundaries.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with automotive, transit, kiosk, or other public-facing embedded interfaces.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA Jetson-class hardware (Orin/Thor) or similar edge platforms.
  • 3D or graphics experience (Three.js, WebGL, shaders) for vehicle and route visualization.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing or simulation environments.
