Typical duties will include but are not necessarily limited to: assisting Senior Maintenance Technicians in troubleshooting and repairing electrical problems, troubleshooting and resolving semi-routine and complex plant machinery mechanical malfunctions, repairing problems related to hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and providing assistance for office moves, adds, and changes, as necessary. \n\nAll job responsibilities are to be performed in strict adherence with the Company’s Mission/Values Statement and in accordance with established standards for external customers as well as internal customers.\n\nWhy Great Northern\nEstablished in 1962, Great Northern is a local, privately owned paper-based packaging manufacturer with a long history of providing secure, stable, and meaningful positions. (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)\nTroubleshoots and repairs mechanical breakdowns related to plant operations machinery and related equipment.\nTroubleshoots and repairs mechanical breakdowns related to hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.\nTroubleshoots and repairs minor electrical outages related to plant operations equipment and corporate office electrical needs.\nPerforms basic plumbing repair as required including plugged sewer lines and minor sewer repair.\nPerforms welding repair as required on plant operations machinery and related equipment.\nAssists Senior Maintenance Technicians in general repair, alteration, small-scale new construction and preventative maintenance work.\nKeeps maintenance area neat, clean and orderly; cleans up after completing maintenance work throughout the plant.\nMonitors unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discuss machine operation variations with Supervisors or other Maintenance Workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.\nDismantles defective machines and equipment.\nInspects and measures machine parts to detect wear, misalignment, dimensional requirements or other problems.\nRemoves, repairs and replaces worn or defective parts, mechanisms and systems.\nRealigns and adjusts functional parts, components, devices and control adjustments.\nStarts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.\nPerforms routine maintenance on all machines by cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of the machinery.\nRepairs or replaces electrical apparatus, such as wiring, and electrical components of machinery and equipment.\nLays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.\nReplaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.\nVisually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.\nUse forklift to move equipment up to and including rigging of machine sections and rolls.\nFollows safe operating procedures and all safety rules in accordance with Company policy and in accordance with OSHA rules and regulations.\nRepairs and maintains the facilities (inside and outside of building).\nSets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures and tools.\nFabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other fixtures or structures.\nInitiates purchase orders for parts, equipment and machines.\nShovels snow and operates snow blower equipment as required.\nParticipates in periodic staff meetings as required.\nParticipates and is certified as a member of the First Responders Committee.\nParticipates and is certified as a member of the HAZ MAT team.\nPerforms overtime work and on-call support work as required of the position.\nParticipates in training and development programs as required of the position.\nPerforms a variety of miscellaneous job-related tasks as may be assigned from time to time by a Management Representative.\n\nOpportunities for Growth\nYou will have the opportunity to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge that can be applied to grow into new positions with higher pay.
