To drive our next phase of platform scale, we are seeking a **Senior Backend Engineer**. In this role, you will lead high-impact architectural initiatives: modernization of our API ecosystem, architecting privacy-first telemetry solutions for enterprise markets, and establishing a unified, Zero Trust security model across all our backend systems.

## **Your Impact & Responsibilities**

### **Backend Infrastructure & Data Strategy**

• **High-Throughput Engineering:** Own the scaling strategy for **Go** and **TypeScript** backend services processing 250k+ RPS, optimizing ingestion pipelines feeding **ClickHouse** and **PostgreSQL**.
• **Storage & Tiering Lifecycle:** Design storage partitioning, data retention, and hot/cold tiering strategies for our multi-year telemetry dataset.

### **API Ecosystem Strategy & Unification**

• **API Modernization:** Lead the strategic evolution of go-e’s current API landscape into a cohesive, long-term API platform serving both internal microservices and external B2B/B2C ecosystems.
• **Contract-First Standards:** Establish API governance, contract-first design principles (OpenAPI, gRPC, GraphQL), and versioning strategies to ensure a seamless, backward-compatible developer experience.
• **API Gateway & Routing:** Design high-performance routing, rate-limiting, and transformation layers that securely expose go-e's core services to the outside world under strict authorization policies.

### **Identity, Security & Zero Trust Architecture**

• **Unified Security Strategy:** Serve as the architectural owner for backend security, ensuring that Identity, Authentication, and Authorization are treated as a foundational, shared layer across all APIs, telemetry, CI/CD and observability domains.
• **Fine-Grained Access & RBAC:** Design and implement robust Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and fine-grained access policies to securely govern data sharing between users, devices, internal systems, and external B2B partners.
• **Zero Trust Ecosystem:** Leverage Zero Trust engineering principles, ensuring secure service-to-service communication, tenant isolation, and secure integration with industry standards.

### **Telemetry Architecture & Data Sovereignty (White-Labeling)**

• **Sovereign Telemetry Platform:** Architect a modular, white-label telemetry ingestion and processing engine capable of running in multi-region, single-tenant, or edge environments for enterprise clients with strict data residency and sovereignty requirements.
• **White-Label Abstraction:** Build flexible domain boundaries allowing go-e's core data-processing logic to be rebranded, configured, and deployed dynamically for OEM and partner solutions.

### **Technical Leadership & Organizational Impact**

• **Driving Technical Alignment:** Drive key architectural decisions through RFCs & ADRs, bringing consensus across backend engineering, mobile/app teams and other stakeholders.
• **Mentorship & Standard Setting:** Elevate senior engineers through technical coaching, architectural code reviews, and delegating ownership of core sub-systems.

## **What You Bring**

• **Proven Senior-Level Leadership:** Track record as a Strong Senior Engineer driving cross-cutting architectural vision across multiple teams and complex domains.
• **Security & Identity Mastery:** Extensive experience engineering distributed security models, including OAuth2/OIDC, PKI, JWT, fine-grained authorization, and RBAC within high-scale platforms.
• **Unified API Design Expertise:** Strong experience designing, deploying, and maintaining unified, public-facing and internal API ecosystems with strict backward-compatibility and security requirements.
• **Multi-Tenant & Sovereign System Design:** Hands-on experience architecting multi-tenant or white-label platforms, with direct knowledge of data sovereignty constraints, localized data storage, and regional data compliance (e.g., GDPR, local residency laws).
• **High-Throughput Backend Mastery:** Expert-level mastery of **Go** and **TypeScript/Node.js** in high-concurrency, event-driven distributed environments.
• **Data Engineering at Scale:** Deep experience with OLAP-optimized databases (e.g. **ClickHouse**) and high-scale relational datastores (**PostgreSQL**), emphasizing high-write ingestion, query tuning, and schema migration strategies.

## **What Would Make You Stand Out**

• **IoT & Fleet Management Protocols:** Direct experience with EV/IoT standards such as OCPP, MQTT, or ISO 15118, paired with high-volume device telemetry processing.
• **Edge & Hybrid Deployments:** Experience designing applications that deploy seamlessly across public cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), localized private clouds, and edge computing environments.
• **Applied Domain-Driven Design (DDD).** Proven track record applying strategic and tactical DDD to untangle complex business and physical domains: establishing bounded contexts, codifying ubiquitous language across product and engineering, and defining clean interfaces that decouple services.
• **Systems-Level & Low-Latency Engineering:** Hands-on experience with compiled, non-garbage-collected languages (**Rust**, **C++**, or **Zig**) for compute-heavy workloads, memory-constrained environments, zero-allocation networking, or performance-critical telemetry processing.

The role is based in Graz or Berlin. Preference is given to candidates based within the European Union and available to relocate.
