You’ll work on backend systems, distributed architectures, data infrastructure, and event-driven systems, enabling engineering teams to build reliable and scalable products efficiently.\nWe’re looking for a strong Python engineer with deep systems understanding who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and building the foundations behind large-scale production environments.\nYou’ll Own:\nDesigning, building, and maintaining core Python infrastructure libraries and frameworks used across engineering teams.\nDeveloping and supporting high-scale microservices and the shared foundations they run on.\nBuilding reusable infrastructure capabilities for data access, messaging, observability, and service communication.\nDriving engineering standards around performance, observability, security, maintainability, and production readiness.\nDriving CI/CD processes, deployment automation, and cloud-native operational practices.\nYou’ll Solve:\nPerformance, concurrency, and scalability challenges across mission-critical Python services.\nData and infrastructure challenges across PostgreSQL, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka, and SQS.\nProduction issues that require deep understanding of runtime behavior, such as memory, CPU, I/O, and process and thread behavior.\nThe growing complexity of modern software ecosystems by building infrastructure that guides developers toward best practices while preserving flexibility where needed.\nBridging architectural and operational gaps between Backend, DevOps, SRE, and Product Engineering teams.\nYou’ll Impact:\nFaster product development through strong infrastructure libraries and foundations.\nStable, scalable, and efficient production systems across critical platform components.\nBetter developer experience through well-designed, reusable components and streamlined engineering workflows.\nThe long-term evolution of Gong’s Python infrastructure and engineering standards.\nHow You’ll Succeed Here:\nYou have 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend systems in production environments.\nYou have strong hands-on experience with Python and modern Python service frameworks.\nYou have experience building and maintaining shared libraries, including API design, versioning, backward compatibility, and packaging.\nYou have a deep understanding of Python’s concurrency models, including threading, multiprocessing, asyncio, and the GIL, and know when to use each.\nYou have a solid understanding of operating system fundamentals, such as processes, memory, networking, and I/O, and how they affect services in production.\nYou have hands-on experience with relational and non-relational data sources, including connection management and performance at scale.\nYou have proven experience designing and operating microservices and event-driven architectures.\nYou have strong experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.\nYou understand how strong platform foundations balance flexibility with consistency in multi-technology environments.\nYou can independently drive technical solutions end-to-end in a fast-paced environment.\nYou collaborate effectively across teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.\nYou hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.\nWhat makes Engineering at Gong unique?\nHere at Gong, we trust and empower our employees with ownership to solve complex problems, make the right decisions, and build products that create real impact.
