We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcome qualified applicants from all backgrounds.\nAbout the job\n\nGoods & Services is looking for aSenior Software and AI Modernization Engineer who is responsible for enterprise application development, modernization of legacy applications, AI-enabled solutions, integrations, and production support.\nThis role requires someone who can maintain existing systems while helping move older technology into modern, scalable, supportable applications and architecture.\nCore Function:\nDesign, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise applications\nModernize legacy applications and convert older technology into current application architectures.\nAssess existing applications and determine whether functionality should be refactored, rebuilt, replaced, or migrated.\nBreak large legacy modernization efforts into controlled, testable phases.\nPreserve existing business functionality while reducing technical debt.\nDesign and develop APIs, services, integrations, and reusable application components.\nDevelop AI-enabled applications, workflows, assistants, agents, and automation solutions.\nIntegrate AI/LLM capabilities into existing and new business applications where there is a defined business use case.\nEvaluate AI solutions for accuracy, security, reliability, maintainability, and operational value.\nWork with database/data resources on application data models, integrations, and performance.\nInvestigate application defects and production issues and drive them to root cause and resolution.\nReview existing code and identify architecture, maintainability, security, and performance risks.\nParticipate in technical design and architecture decisions.\nBuild solutions that can be supported by resources other than the original developer.\nCreate appropriate automated and manual testing for new development and modernization work.\nSupport DEV, TEST/UAT, and PROD releases.\nDefine rollback or recovery approaches for significant production changes.\nMaintain technical documentation for applications, integrations, architecture, APIs, and deployment processes.\nMaintain clear status, estimates, blockers, risks, and target dates for assigned work.\nWork directly with BA, PM, DB/Data, Infrastructure, Applications, Security, and Support teams.\nEnsure completed work is tested, validated, documented, deployed, and supportable.\nWhat you’ll do:\nThe developer should be able to take an existing application and understand:Current business functionality\nExisting architecture\nDatabase dependencies\nExternal integrations\nAuthentication and security dependencies\nReports and downstream consumers\nTechnical debt\nUnsupported or aging technologies\nProduction dependencies\n\nThen design and execute a controlled path toward the new architecture without disrupting existing operations.\nModernization should not simply mean rewriting code. The developer must understand what the existing system does, why it does it, and what must be preserved before replacing it.\nBuild AI-enabled internal tools and business applications.\nWork with LLM APIs and AI platforms.\nDevelop AI agents and workflow automation where appropriate.\nImplement structured prompting, tool/function calling, APIs, and application integration.\nConnect AI solutions to approved enterprise data sources.\nDesign appropriate validation and human review where AI output affects business decisions.\nEvaluate AI output quality and reliability.\nImplement appropriate logging, monitoring, access control, and failure handling.\nMove AI initiatives from prototype into supportable production solutions.\nWhat you’ll need:\nSolid enterprise software development experience oriented to JavaScript, TypeScript, GO, and Python.\nModern application architecture\nLegacy application modernization\nAPI design and integration\nREST APIs and web services\nSQL and relational database experience\nObject-oriented application development\nGit/source control\nCI/CD and application deployment\nApplication troubleshooting and root cause analysis\nTesting and release management\nSecure application development\nExperience integrating third-party systems and services\nAI Skills, including experience with several of the following:LLM APIs\nAI application development\nAI agents, including Github Copilot, Cursor, Cloud code and Codex\nPrompt engineering\nTool/function calling\nRetrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)\nVector search / embeddings\nAI workflow
